Rumours and Stuff

29-year-old Vave has reportedly explored options with both NRL and UK Super League clubs, but would prefer to stay in Australia if he can earn a decent gig in the country.

Parramatta have reportedly offered Vave a below-market deal in the hopes of keeping him at the club as part of a forward rotation, but his strong performances in a struggling side could earn him a contract elsewhere.

Should he not land an NRL contract, three or four English clubs are monitoring his situation closely.
Who said it is below market? Looking at his stats anything above minimum pay is paying more than his worth.

Maybe we are learning, finally.

I was totally against signing Mennings when it happened ... but he was great for 1.5 seasons .... i know he has been pretty f**kin average this year, but surely you merkins have got to acknowledge he had been good for us prior to that .... he has hardly been the lone ranger of shitness at parra this year
Plenty of Tontos, kemosabe

Now we knew he wanted to play for a local team as lived in Castle Hill and Penrith were not going to take him back. So what did we do? Continue paying him huge dollars and give him a contract with option in his favour! Wtf!
Will we ever learn? The only club available to him was Parra yet we gave him a contract IN HIS FAVOUR. We were holding a straight flush but folded when Jenning's agent went all in!

Agree the 4th year should of been in our favour or in his at little money.

Oh and when your in your 30s and slowing down its up too you and the moneys huge:grin:

Well assume we won't have Gower next year, so we need a merkin who can slot in when the injuries hit.

Gower I feel is ok for a few games. When he plays to many consecutive games his body seems to slow up.

What you want is guys like Kafusi, Niakuore, Stone as the back up guys

You need a first grader or two in reggies preferably. Most teams ease rookies into the NRL scene, not throw them into the deep end and hope that they swim.

If it wasn't for the stupid 30 man squad thing, coaches like BA would be giving the kids plenty of game time in the back half of the year. All the same, is Kafusi & Stone NRL ready ? Are they obviously too good for ISP ?

I was talking for 2019.
Sure you need a few fringe first graders. Gowers ben good. But he is done now. I wouldn't want him taking up a top 30 spot. Its embarassing how little juniors we've bought in over the last 4 or 5 yrs. It would be ranked last for sure.
Too many average NRL guys in pur top 17 and NSW cup who wont amount to much.
We need to focus on a stronger 10 core players then work around that. Seems to be how the best clubs are competetive.

He wasn’t going to play for free just so he could shorten his commute. He never would have played for the Roosters otherwise. He was one of the best centres in the game when we signed him. He would’ve have been cheap no matter where he signed, but whatever we paid him, it would have been even more if he didn’t live nearby.

Another way to reduce the cost of a contract is to offer player options. An option in the club’s favour would increase the amount the player demands to sign. Can’t you see how that works?

Crucial???? He's a first grader and can do a job if needed. On minimum coin he's a handy back up. Do we have any other big bodies coming through ready for next season??? What happens if Paulo gets injured???? Or is suspended??? Vae on chump change can do a job for us.
So you're saying the club is doing the right thing?

Salesi Faingea and Kaifusi can probably do the job we need and are probably better long term investments...after all we wouldn't want the REALISTS getting their proverbial in a knot for not giving juniors a go...

The little that I have seen of Faingea this year he is way off the pace. Poor in defence and looks lazy. I hope the little I have seen is ot a true indication f his potential.

the coaching staff definitely have a job on their hands with the kid, let's see how he responds to the grind of off season training...

Given what has happened this year with not being able to play players that we want I'd say yeah every top 30 spot is crucial and we can't be giving them away. If we lose Paulo, who we'll be trying to get 50-60 minutes a week bringing in Siosaia "15 minutes" Vave isn't going to help much. I'd much rather we take a gamble on Stefano Utoikamanu.

He definitely came back from Fiji overweight. Having a full and proper pre-season would've been better for him physically.

I'd go as far as saying that wouldn't be a gamble at all...very special talent.

No doubt. Almost the entire team has played like poo, but having said that, had he managed to score those tries he bombed, we may of jagged a few wins, and not seemed so poo.

Maybe we should sign him on a 5 year $3.4M deal.

Yes I am joking, but it's not too far off what the Broncos did with Payne Haas. 18 years old and 3 NRL games. Crazy stuff.
