Rumours and Stuff

Round 4 - 10 runs 89 mtres, 0 tries, 0 LB, 2 tackle busts, 4 tackles, 0 missed, 1 error
Round 5 - 12 runs 76 mtres, 1 try, 0 LB, 3 tackle busts, 5 tackles, 0 missed, 1 error,
Offered very little in those 2 games. A fullback should be running over 100m. He also posed little attacking threat scoring only 1 try, no line breaks and no try assists. You can't have a fullback as a passenger, regardless if he is a QLD SoO legend, and a potential immortal. It is too important of a position.
Fair point. But look at Val Holmes. Lasted one game at fullback I think but went back to the wing, put in and earned another crack at it. Now he's on fire. Bevan went backwards.

Are you talking about Slater? Because if you are, every game bar round 4 from round 2 - 7 he either contributed in attack by either scoring at least 1 try, 1 line break, 1 LBA or 1 try assist, often more than 1. That's not being a passenger. That is contributing. French did sweet f**k all in his 3 games. As I said before, a passenger

And yet when our forwards were playing well last year French was playing well at FB and no one wanted him gone. Just like every other fullback plays shit when their forwards are not giving them room.

I just think French has become an easy scapegoat on here and probably for BA as well and I think our problems this year have not been the fault of our backs as much as our forwards, especially in some of the close games. We need forwards who can learn to win the play the ball, get a decent offload away and actually look for support and if we have a pack that can do that, French will be back at the level he was when he scored 12 tries in 20 games at fullback.

Just for comparison sake (% strike rate of tries per game over career)
Tedesco 53%
Slater 59%
Dufty 50%
RTS 32% as fullback (30% including on the wing)
Boyd 27% (includes as winger)
French 60% (74% including on the wing)

Edit: Gutherson 55% as Fullback (39% in all positions)

I dunno MJC - for me French played much better as a winger last season?

He had 1 good game at FB (vs Saints?) Where he scored a solo try by dummying to himself 12 times. After that teams sat on his dummy and he looked largely ineffective at FB.

Is Hayne is at the club next season surely he should be FB? He looks in fantastic form and back to 'league shape' finally.

Disagree. Norman and Moses have showed when forwards win battle they are class.
They lack line breaking 2nd rowers out wide and big props who can offload in the middle. And a hooker who offers little in attack (Not having a dig he is a rookie)

Have to agree with this.

There’s been many halves that have reaped the rewards of having a line breaking forward run off them. We had T. rex but unfortunately lost him early to injury. Next year with lane coming and our other edge forward coming along nicely, we may see our halves start posing a threat. Hopefully tep puts on his size again and we will have some options out wide

Disagree.

We have lost quite a few games this season where our forwards have competed, and set a strong platform, but our halves simply could not capitalise.

Imagine Moses had Kikau to pass to after Burgess x 2 carted it up.
Our forwards have a few times competed but not once have they dominated and steam rolled a team. Its been years since I have seen pur pack just belt the ass end out of another teams pack
