Rumours and Stuff

And IIRC mennings came with a few tpa’s that he carried across from the roosters. One was Nike and I can’t recall the other. Blaming this whole mess on mennings tpa’s is a bit of a stretch imo, considering we made substantial signings post 2016. Our position on mennings would of been known by then.

When did I blame the whole mess on Mennings TPA? Did you read all of my post? I said very clearly that part of the problem is the ongoing difficulty to arrange new TPAs that are off-cap.

why do people think we are in a bad cap situation? .... we are f**king fine

our problem is merkins not playing to their f**king potential

all the underperforming merkins are off contract too - gives us plenty of options going forward - get your fingers out merkins or f**k off

If we we're in a good cap position we wouldn't need to offload players - simples

Exactly. Trying to get rid of these underperofrming players probably has more to do with the spots they're taking up in the Top 30 rather than the cap space. It just so happens that 3 of our underperofrming players are 3 of our highest earners. So it just so happens that releasing high earning players will also free up a lot more money than low earning players.

Maybe because the club thinks they can get better value by moving a player on and eating some of the $$. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have exhausted your cap space. Sometimes clubs do it when they want to strengthen a different area of the team.

Who really knows what our cap position is, the CEO has hardly been open about anything , for instance we still are waiting for Shaun Lane to be announced. Hopefully communication with the fan base is one of the critical mentions in the review, we could certainly take a leaf out of the Newcastle Knights playbook on that.

You would have to hope that the cap is OK, but who has really been available, that's the problem coupled with what I would believe is some intent on promoting our younger players . Often players in the last year of a contract are advised that if there is a longer term contract avaiable elsewhere they would be wise to accept it.

Like how the Roosters offloaded Pearce and co?

Like they already had Cronk lined up and it actually improved that position - halfback

On the other hand we will be weakening a position to centre/five eighth to strengthen a position hooker/prop.

That's when you know we are salary cap stuffed pau pau

I still dont think they have explicitly been told to f**k off ... i reckon they are trying to sort out their futures 1 yr in advance (which is now how the nrl works) - and we have just said we arent gonna commit to a new contract, if you find something better we can look at letting you go early

With a contract in place they can never be told to leave (or f**k off). It is always ‘ur free to look elsewhere’

Yes but it's not like we have a centre ready to come in. The only reason could be to gain the likes of Peachey on a 3 y deal

Yes i understand that ... my point is, we arent saying we dont want you, we are saying we are not prepared to commit to any future contract

It could be something like this:

Let’s say Norman and Jennings are on $800k each. And BA wants to move them on as they aren’t providing value and thinks our younger players are capable to cover them. Plus they aren’t in our long term plans.

Salmon takes Norman’s top 13 spot and French takes Jennings top 13 spot (Hayne centre French fullback), so we have covered them with our current players (just an example could be any player in the squad)

Brown moves into the top 30 to cover a halves spot and parry or Dunster to cover a backs spot (what salmon / French were doing)

We then pay $300k (or even $400k) each for Jennings / Norman to play with another club, which frees up $1 million. We pay Brown / Parry or Dunster $100k each, so we now have freed up $800k (or $600k).

We now have enough have more cap space to do what ever we want.

BTW based on 2018 form are we any worse off by doing this ?

If we don’t spend that 800k on some quality players we could be worse off. We might only win 3 games

Considering everyone thinks 2019 is going to be a disaster we can just use it to re-sign players off contract we want to keep and set us up for 2020.....

Or maybe we think they're now shit and will be overtaken by the younger players throughout the year.

The questions needs to be asked, how and why did both halves, who both were potential origin prospects this year, fail so miserably??? And how did an origin and test centre fall from grace so quickly??? These are our 3 highest paid stars and we’re looking to offload them all at the same time. Let’s not forget the rumours of French being shopped. And who do we have on our books that can replace these players? Which younger players, salmon???? The kid was bog average. Not exactly sure why they’re being shopped, whatever the case it isn’t good. Let’s not forget about Hayne, why hasn’t he been resigned? Is that a salary cap situation?
