May one of you darlings name our team for next year so far? Who is this Mahoney fella? Does he have the twinkle dust to be our dummy half next year. Also my lovely snow muffins what ever happened to Kane Evans. He killed it in Juniors. Was way way way more rated than Napa. Isn’t it strange how some Juniors just adapt better in first grade. Anywho I’m off to get my chest waxed. Too ta loo my lovely snow huggers.

Toohey's News | Newcastle Knights target Eels centre Michael Jennings and Dragons utility Kurt Mann
BARRY TOOHEYOctober 6 2018 - 1:00PM
Knights coach Nathan Brown is understood to have met with either the players directly or their managers within the past week with both believed to be open to making the move north.

And we have also been told that Brisbane winger Corey Oates, who is yet to re-sign with Brisbane, could be another on the radar as well.

The sticking point with Jennings and Mann is they are under contract to their respective clubs for another season but there is a strong chance both could be released.
The Eels are desperate to off-load players to create some cap space and Jennings is said to be on around $800,000 next season. Negotiations with the Knights would only get serious if Parramatta was willing to chip in around half that figure.

The Knights have also shown some interest in another Eels outside back, Bevan French.”

Well Josh here is another article quoting Parra need cap space. My question is why?

Do the Knights have a sombrero like Roosters as they have already bought well and seem to have unlimited resources to buy plenty more?

You're kidding, right? We run near the bottom every year, and we have about 8 blokes who would even make it in another first grade squad. Of course we've got cap space to spare...

Well, ignoring the fact that it is just a journalist's opinion and today is the day that the Sunday papers come out........the Knights don't have 3 senior players coming into the final year of back-ended deals. It appears that we've got Jennings, Moses and Norman in that situation, and in Jennings case this may include amounts that were originally planned to be 'outside the cap' (but got put 'on cap' after the salary cap disaster).

Plus our players were good enough to win 16 games last year. They won’t be cheap. Sure they only won six games this year but so did the Roosters in 2016.

Maybe they all realised that meant they were shit and took pay cuts. That would’ve given them cap space to buy Tedesco and Cronk and the premiership.

Because they probably don’t see any value in them based on there 2018

Anyhow still doesn’t translate into your comment:

But DT also stated that they have no money left under cap for more players, if so how typical is that! We were over the cap in 2013 & 2014 so how incompetent are we, apparently still haven't learnt anything from past history.

If we had sufficient cap space there would be no rush to offload Jennings or Norman. That could be the only reason knowing the club will almost certainly be paying some freight.

With zero player's near origin or high rep levels, our cap situation is a complete disaster. This is what happens when you put a coach with self interests in charge of recruitment.

We're on par with the worst clubs regarding our cap situation. Nothing will change until the club can get these emerging players up to speed. 2 more years of pain minimum

If we are really trying to offload him, of course it will create cap space. But that’s not the only reason why we would be trying to get him off the books. His form has slumped and doesn’t seem worth the money we are paying him. Same with Norman and Moses.
It’s not about creating cap space because we need it, it’s about getting rid of players who are on overs so we can manage the room we do have better.

Journalists hear that a team is looking to get rid of someone and automatically report that it’s because they need cap room. Truth is they have no idea how much room we have in the cap and are guessing.

Sorry baz, not saying you said it, but Norman and Moses were both signed after the salary cap scandal of 2016. If we were in such a mess, why did we throw the back at both those halves and now looking to offload them? We would of known mennings situation before either player would of been signed.

That's right, I didn't say it. So I can't argue with you there. What I am saying is that we remain constrained by the outcomes of the salary cap bust. Both in terms of the Jennings contract, and the difficulty in arranging off-cap TPAs since.

IIRC the stories re the NRL treating all our TPAs as 'on cap' (at least initially) emerged in early 2017 (so after Norman re-signed), but I could be wrong.

100% agree.

Lets just hope we dont loose to many emerging quality players in the mean time.
Unfortunately i think its inevitable ..!

And IIRC mennings came with a few tpa’s that he carried across from the roosters. One was Nike and I can’t recall the other. Blaming this whole mess on mennings tpa’s is a bit of a stretch imo, considering we made substantial signings post 2016. Our position on mennings would of been known by then.

why do people think we are in a bad cap situation? .... we are f**king fine

our problem is merkins not playing to their f**king potential

all the underperforming merkins are off contract too - gives us plenty of options going forward - get your fingers out merkins or f**k off
