You obviously dont agree. You think BA will have his heart in experimentation or risk-taking or succession planning, when his own future is on the line and only immediate results will ensure that he gets another contract with Parramatta (or, maybe, anybody)? It would be a big ask of a bloke to sacrifice his own future in order to ensure the ongoing future of the club. Parramatta is in a rebuilding phase right now (particularly with the exit of our most experienced half; inexperience and lack of depth in the hooking position; and the lack of a quality fullback). A new coach in his first year might try a number of combinations and blood new players, and/or persevere with players and combinations because he would have time on his hands. I'm not sure BA has that luxury, which puts him and the club in an unenviable position.

That's an awful lot to read into a comment taking the piss out of your abject, unrelenting pessimism....do you work for Murdoch?

You dont agree that BA is under more pressure this year than previous years? The last year of his contract? Guided the team to last place this year? No pressure? Okay.
What? That’s not what I said at all.

I commented on the fact that most people believe BA hasn’t been held accountable for our performances. He will be in 2019 so why is it suddenly a problem when it is what people have been asking for?

Also - I don’t understand your description of risk. You seem to be suggesting that someone who is under pressure will take less risks. I would argue that the reverse is probably true.

BA won't be thinking about blooding too many debutantes or making too many plans for the future. He'll be very conservative and only thinking about 2019. He just wants as many wins on the board as he can in order to save his career. He won't be taking any risks - unfortunately.
I like Gazza's thinking about positions 1-5 but think you'll be right Lingard. And by doing so BA will be signing his retrenchment cheque. These young guys are hungry and have the right foundations to become very good players. Most have a pedigree with a rep team so are amongst the best for their age and now need the experience to become very good NRL players, but doubt BA will give them the chance.

“Don’t be surprised if the Sharks add Brad Arthur to their coach wish list for next season.

Arthur needs a good year at the Eels after the club struggled this season but is still held in high regard by rival clubs.

Sharks players are pushing for assistant coach John Morris to replace the disgraced Shane Flanagan but I’m hearing Arthur’s management may offer his services to Cronulla.

A host of other contenders are in the hunt for the Sharks job, with Trent Barrett current favourite.”

I've been following (and supporting) Parramatta for more than fifty years and I've only become 'a pessimist' in the last couple of years or less. I've put plenty of money through the turnstiles at Cumberland Oval and Parramatta Stadium, and put money in their pokies and helped prop up their beer sales. I think I have earned the right to voice my displeasure at how far this club has degenerated (with abysmal recruitment and retention, total fiascos at board level, rorting the salary cap without anything to show for it, etc, etc).
Besides which, I'm not being unduly pessimistic about season 2019. It's a rebuild and development year which could lead to better years in 2020 and beyond. I'm expecting nothing for 2019. I hope BA sees it this way, but his future is on the line (rightly so, in my opinion) and this will almost certainly cloud his judgement (as I'm sure it would mine). That okay with you?

Yes. People under pressure are often more conservative in their approach. Anyway, lets go back to the 14 year old boys' banter that predominates this (rugby league) forum these days. It's really funny.

Please take him. I’d be happy with just Mick Potter to be honest.

Oh, well based on that self indulgent dribble you're clearly better than me so don't wait for my permission to be a miserable whinger...

That's my thinking. And I cant say I blame BA if he does take the conservative route. After all, he's got his livelihood at stake too. $500,000 or so per year would be very hard thing to risk. I couldn't do it.

It's okay. I was silly to try to engage Garry in a conversation about football. It's not what he does best
I have obviously exposed a weakness in your thinking which has caused you to get very defensive.

That’s fine. If you’d prefer not to address my comments and instead resort to name calling it reflects on you rather than me.

Just do what @Gazzamatta has done and put me on ignore. That way you can bitch and moan all you like and never have to the opportunity to see things in a different light.

Have a merry Christmas.

If he is losing games and his livelihood is at stake you can guarantee he will throw caution to the wind much more than if he knew his job was safe.

As you said, he will do anything to try and get a win.

Is Trent Barrett a better coach than BA? Me thinks they are about the same. Barrett seems popular with the players but comes across as less intense.
