For the umpteen+1th time, that doesn’t disprove my point at all.

In fact, if anything it’s the sign of a real leader to be able to self reflect and acknowledge your own weaknesses.

It develops empathy in others and makes you more relatable when you have something important to tell them.

You don’t have to convince me about Watmough being a bad signing. But you will never convince me that Watmough didn’t offer leadership whilst he was at Parramatta.
No doubt he tried but he was f**king busted and everyone except BA saw it.

He might have inspired others simply due to his stature in the game, but a bloke who just wants to clock on and clock off isn't a good leader.
Yep it certainly doesn’t show a genuine commitment to building a strong team. Sometimes it’s those things that happen outside of training that make all the difference on game day. That doesn’t necessarily mean he has to be chummy with them all.

He doesn’t need to be staying back giving the players reach arounds to be an effective leader. In a team bereft of leadership he would have offered more than most.

The best manager I have ever had was a CEO who was very strict with work life balance but very purposeful when he was at work.

Rather than being purposeful at work, it sounds more like he'd be giving others the impression that he didn't want to be there. And if he was being a good leader he wouldn't have made the admission that he had to change.

Absolutely an appreciation for work life balance is vital. However, the best Director I have ever worked under also placed importance on staff getting to know and understanding each other outside the work environment. Whilst he maintained professional boundaries he was the first one there at these social events and it really did foster a better work environment and IMO improved outcomes.

Agreed. Whether it was correct or not, the potential was there for the playing group to perceive his exit straight after training as not being completely vested in the team.

For the umpteenth time, Watmough was a shocking signing and for mine not 20/20 hindsight. I wasn't happy with it from the start. But in the mans own words I post this again for the history revisionist that just won't give up their annoying crappy and actually quite baffling interpretation of a very pathetic signing on and off the field. We were just very lucky that we got out of it the way we did. This is also directed at you Poo.

After a disappointing 2015 in which he was dropped from the NSW side, a forthright Watmough admits he was nowhere near his best in his first year in Eels colours.

He gives no guarantees he can reach his former heights but says his ordinary form had more to do with his attitude than his injury toll.

He says he didn't embrace the Parramatta club as he should and was too preoccupied with "trying to get in and get out and get home".

"I was still living in Manly and harbouring resentment (towards former club Manly)," Watmough said.

"But life is life. You've just got to move on and I'm really enjoying my time at Parra.

"I didn't embrace it enough last year and that's my own doing. The next year I really want to build on what Parra's got."

He sucked us in the first year and tried the old fools double suck side polish with some extra sloppy excuse and sucked half the fools on here off again.

Or proves my theory. He was only ever interested in a pay day and sucked BA in.

It probably applies equally. I suspect Gary has had the same conversations with his workmates about his slackarse boss.

One thing Gary seems to be missing. He is and the people he works with are quite inteligent forms of the human race. I am sure he can fill in the gaps of a great leader.
Footy players well they are a mixed bag. Some are smart and some just have other skills. I highly doubt they'd see anything about work life balance, or be filling in gaps and getting hidden messages. I dare say many have to be wound up and told what to do and follpw the leader so to speak. So if Watmough was doing the minimum the whats good for the goos is good for the gander would of been the monkey see monkey doo attitude he brought to the club....

He just needed to turn up, be professional at training, then f**k off. That’s what he did. If he was lonely that’s his problem. That’s what the money was for.

And his form was excellent in his final games before getting surgery. It was his early games that were less inspiring because he was trying to be a playmaker instead of running the ball.

He didn’t say he was a poor leader. It sounded more like he wished he’d gotten
more out of it.
