Who says he did the minimum required? The merkin gave 110% every time he put on his boots. Going for coffee with a bunch of single blokes isn’t doing extras, it’s avoiding your responsibilities at home.
When someone says they're just "trying to get in and get out and get home", and says they regret that, I think it implies that they're just doing the minimum required. It seems by far the most obvious interpretation.Who says he did the minimum required? The merkin gave 110% every time he put on his boots. He retired at 33. That's probably about average these days for players earning his kind of money. So anyone who plays a dozen origins has obviously put in? Like Hayne?Well I know he always put in because of his achievements and longevity. I know he went home because he said so.
It's a hard but fair contest too. Enthralling viewing.Loser Baby not giving any ground to Pou on this one. Not a sausage.
Back to you in the commentary box @Eelogical
I got out of the way early when I realised I was just an entree to the main course. It's a hard but fair contest too. Enthralling viewing.
Thanks Braith Anasta.I think it could be a sign of as decent leader to say you could be doing better - you show you have high expectations and that can rub off on others
On the other hand, you might also be bludging ... tho the biggest bludgers probably have no recognition they are bludgers
There I am glad I cleared that up. Now we can move on
Who wants to follow Hayne’s example? I think it’s well-known that Hayne is a shitty trainer and is just lucky enough to be naturally gifted. I think his team mates understand this and don’t rely on the same natural talents. They probably thought that too. But he was the one who'd won two premierships and played 14 Origins, not them.
It's why merkins want to follow Hayne's example no matter how little we'd want them to.
Yeah, our team has been renowned for putting in over the years. No short cuts taken ever.Who wants to follow Hayne’s example? We’ve been dogshit for a long time but I’m not sure if that can be put down to not putting in, at least for the most part.Yeah, our team has been renowned for putting in over the years. No short cuts taken ever.
Happiness isn't a requirement for leadership either.
Was it you that was arguing a while back that we had a shitty culture? We’ve been dogshit for a long time but I’m not sure if that can be put down to not putting in, at least for the most part.
We don't have those things which is why we have been trying to acquire leadership.I dont buy into leadership bullshit.
You want passion which comes from connection to club.
You want team spirit whuch comes for players getting on and no trouble makers.
You want desire which comes from within
You need some skill which comes from the individual
You want confidence and that builds the more you win.
Have all those things and you will se 4 or 5 good leader at the club who are already part of the squad.

Every Parra coach over the last 30 years has failed to cultivate it.
Fair point. Although I don’t think a shitty culture necessarily equates to not putting in/effort. I certainly think there were plenty of egos in the squad last year but again, that doesn’t necessarily equate to those players following Hayne’s example. Arthur conceded that the playing group wasn’t as tight and there needed to be a stronger focus on building relationships. I’d argue that element of our culture had more of an impact on our results than not putting in.Was it you that was arguing a while back that we had a shitty culture?
One of the symptoms of a ''poor culture'' (your words) is lack of discipline and lack of effort. Yes, that isn't our only problem, but I find it hard to believe that our team is as collectively committed in the way that the Storm are.Fair point.
