Im leaning towards Pou being right. The coach would of given him more then 4 games if he was on more then 300k. Especialy being that he recruited him.
Vave was signed by St marys btw. From eels to St marys.
Another BA dud buy. Played ok at Manly and shit here, who would have thought?

Most people expected Evans to be in the 17 didnt they? I thought he’d be more than just a back up. He’s not a world beater but he was solid enough for the Roosters the previous year.

At first, I thought it was injuries that was keeping him in reserves but when he stayed there I had to reassess. Was he worse than I remembered when he played for the Roosters or has he not shown the right attitude since coming here?

How does he go from being good enough to be in the 17 of a winning squad to not making the 17 of a losing squad in less than a year?

Maybe I overrated him like BA. But if so, doesn’t that mean that the Roosters did as well?

Or did BA immediately turn him into a f**k tard?

It’s one of the two.

I know which one El D will choose.
Roosters dropped him for their finals (and final) game so they already assessed him as not being good enough for their top 17.

I'm like you Ram, slightly optimistic, but see problems firstly with the holes in the roster and secondly with the team BA will pick. I think he'll pick the same established players that have let him down in the past whereas I'd like him to persevere with a few juniors.

In our recent trial Parry apparently was the star performer so if promoted (hopefully) to top 30 he'll fill one centre hole in our roster in lieu of Salmon who was also in the team and showed nothing. Mahoney must be the preferred hooker and Kaufusi must be on bench in preference to Mannah. One can only hope Moses will be consistent, and when with Tigers without Brooks always played well. Lets hope he steps up and allows Dylan Brown to play his natural running game. These players are the future of our team and their experience this year will hold them in good stead for future years.

It's crunch year for a lot of people, especially BA. I have always stood by the clubs decision to retain BA rather than punt him when things got tough, even if he doesn't end up seeing out the full term of his final season. It shows at least one thing, future coaches can feel that the knives won't come out as quickly, as has been the case in the past. The pressure is on to fill the seats at Bankwest and to show a vast improvement on the field. Of course, there are contracts to consider. It's very exciting!

Those Newcastle players that i mentioned are either at the top of their game, or are undeniable future superstars.

Evans and Hoffman on the other hand were below average players.

That's the difference

Newcastle a one team town ? But almost went bankrupt very recently, and don't have a very rich league's club backing them.
The Wests Club are very wealthy, probably about Parra's size if I had a guess.

He played one reserve grade game in three years for the Roosters and nine in one year for us. Something went wrong since we signed him. The World Cup injury disrupting his pre-season is the only logical answer.

I'm pretty certain Evans was bought with the intent of him being top seventeen, based upon all the talk of body shape ( height ) that he brought to the club, and the fact he had played enough games the year before to indicate he was a genuine first grader.

That doesn't make him worth a motza, but no way he was signed on minimum either, I would have thought somewhere around 250k give or take if I had to have a guess.
Yep. I reckon between $200k and $300k.

Kenny Edwards would have been very close to our top 10 paid players being in his second year of a three year contract, particularly having extended after a strong 2016.

He was dropped for the opening two games of this season so your theory of genuine top 17 players not getting dropped is rubbish.
Edwards was a discipline case, and someone we were trying to push out of the club in the final year of his contract.
I’m certain coaches select teams based on who they think are most likely to
Win the game, not what they earn.
Their earnings indicate their ability, and teams are picked on ability not form.

Huh? He was re-signed at the end of 2016, which was after the drug testing and common assault incidents. He had a strong year in 2017 in a season we were top 4. The DUI incident didn’t happen until mid April 2018, well after the the start of the season. Why would the club be ready to cut ties with him?

I also reckon if Edwards is still with us we’re not that interested in Lane.
It wasn't any given incident that rissoled Edwards, it was the review pointing out that he's more trouble than he's worth.

There is a third option though. Evans was useful enough playing a 20-25 minute role in a very strong squad. We over estimated his ability to play longer minutes in a far worse pack.

In this scenario, the Roosters didn’t overrate him at all...and we did.
Why would we need him to play long minutes? We have plenty of forwards who can play long minutes at high intensity.

I'm sure we knew we had a worse pack than the Roosters, and we also knew how many minutes Evans had been playing through his career.

So Evans attitude was good enough for 3 months of the pre season to get picked in the top 17, but then his attitude turned to shit after 4 weeks?

I just think BA over rated him, paid too much for him and then after 4 weeks realized he wasn’t up to scratch.
So we decided he wasn't good enough for a shit team? Instead he was only good enough for a strong team? Makes sense.

Evans is not the problem - its the length of contract that BA and the club offered that is killing us.
3 years+ contracts should only be reserved for the game's elite, and when ba is offering 3 year deals to Evans and Hoffman and a 4 year contract to an injured croc like Watmough, you can see why Parramatta cant afford to purchase the best players.

Forget tpa's - Parramatta have probably 2 million tied up with average players, and we're also subsidizing players like Corey.

Its no wonder management has now taken full responsibility for recruitment.
Longer contracts reduce the cost of the contract per-year.
