My mail last night was that we had made a 3 year offer in the range of low to mid $600k and that was pretty much where we were planning to sit.
Gutho's manager hasn't supposedly even taken this to Gutho as he (the manager) is trying to squeeze us to $700k for 4 years. Not likely to happen.

Little belief that any other clubs are queuing up to pay $700k for a centre because no one really needs a fullback. And keeping in mind our offer comes with captaincy and a new stadium is Gutho realistically going to say they aren't worth the difference he has been offered?

Typical 3%'r games being played out at the moment. Does mean signing announcement before Monday currently zero chance.

Why is $700k such a big risk anyway? The cap is going to 10mill

It's a lower risk than $450k under a 6mill cap

It’s a risk that he has injury concerns and it’d be a lot of money to have tied up long term if he misses large chunks of playing time. Also it’s a risk in so much that other clubs likely wouldn’t spend that much on him and we could theoretically spend less on him.
Other then that I agree dollarwise it’s not a huge risk given I think his skill over 3-4 years will more than likely come up to that point

Yeah but as a percentage of the cap it's less of a risk than it seems IMO. And I can certainly see a desperate club splashing that much or more on him if it came to a bidding war. FFS Ash Taylor is a million dollar player thanks to a desperate club and all he can do is kick a football.

Yeah $900k is too much of a stretch and it’s certainly possible (however unlikely) that a desperate club puts a silly offer in front of him because of what he brings off the field as well as on it, so for the sake of an extra $50-$100k I reckon keep our Captain happy and feeling valued and lock him in lock term. Let him then use his influence within the player group with other off contract players we want to keep.

Agree it is a risk but it’s only a $50-$100k additional risk (allegedly) being the difference in what we have offered and this $700k asking price. I reckon it’s a risk we can afford considering our current available cap space for 2019 and beyond, what Gutho brings to the table and the lack of alternatives.

and 750k would only be an extra 50k. And 800k would only be another 50k on top of that.

People would scream blue murder if we pay that sort of money to a bloke who doesn't get on the field.

If he plays 20+ games every single year he’s probably worth $700k. Especially if he was still a goal kicker.

But if he really was loyal we wouldn’t have to match the highest offer.
