You are right that he won’t leave no stone unturned, but what about his pace and acceleration? Some players lose so much after knee issues. Hindmarsh automatically comes to mind.

He doesn't appear to have so far though, so again whilst that is a risk, if one is going to say that he is more likely to suffer injury due to injury history, would it not also then follow that his demonstrated ability to recover from those same injuries would mitigate that risk somewhat.

He was on Instagram saying “I have a slight feeling that this account may turn red and green :grimacing::grimacing:”.

Something to that effect. Make of that what you will. If he’s happy to play silly buggers he can leave now for all I care.

Fair dinkum?

Oh well, was fun while it lasted. You'd think for 2020 and beyond with Inglis retired the Bunnies could pay Guth 750K and still have somewhere between 300-450K left of Inglis salary to go and buy another player or top up 2 or 3 others...

We can’t win, we pay overs and f**kwits in the media bag the shit out of us, we offer what we think and is fair deal and refuse to pay overs we get the shit bagged out of us in the media.

Every club has players who are on 'overs' (which includes, not only money, but length of contract). The art of the thing is deciding who to spend 'overs' on and who not to. Previously Parramatta have had no qualms in spending 'overs' on a player like Whatmough, (who was near the end of his career and riddled with injury, but was seen to have leadership qualities) or Kane Evans (who was just over-rated); but we baulk at paying overs for a player (Gutherson) who is still young, is a good player, is inspirational to the team and is a good leader. Gutherson is the right sort of player to pay 'overs' for.

Yep spot on, although I don’t see $700k as overs. It’s probably more than what the club was hoping to get him for but it’s not excessive. If that figure is true, there was an opportunity cost of Gutho limiting his value to that amount, so I don’t think it’s a case of a player being greedy. Now that we didn’t come to the party and he has gone to market, there’s a real possibility we may need to outlay even more to keep him or have to let him go. Either that or the Eels are confident there won’t be any other higher offers. As pointed out in this discussion, there are plenty of teams with plenty of cap space that could use him.

Those in charge will either be geniuses or halfwits, and the fact we’ve let an extra $50-$100k be the sticking point, I’m leaning towards the latter.

Fair points Lingard, if we were going to pay a little extra Guth wouldn’t be a bad option.

But the club is trying to turn over a new leaf, stop being the doormat of player agents.

I can see it from the clubs point of view. it’s disappointing how this has been played out by Guth and his management IMO.

I can 100% see where the club is coming from. He’s 2 knee reco’s into his short career. Where was his form last year, 3 good games doesn’t make a career.

Here are some other fullbacks in the comp and their alleged salaries (quoted salaries should be used as a guide rather than proof):

Boyd: 2020 - $750k, 2021 - $750k

Dugan: 2020 - $750k, 2021 - $750k

RTS: 2020 - $900k

(Zero Tackle)

Moylan (May need to play fullback once back from injury): 2020 - $900k, 2021 - $900k

Turbo Tom: 2020 - $900k
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp...evic-for-next-four-years-20161008-grxzp7.html

Ponga: 2020 - $720k, 2021 - $720k, 2022 - $720k (negotiations already under way to extend and upgrade)
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.../17/nrl-knights-offer-kalyn-ponga-3m-contract

Mbye: 2020 - Approx $670k, 2021 - Approx $670k
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp...ntract-with-wests-tigers-20180529-p4zi8d.html

In the current market, I can’t see why Gutho shouldn’t expect a contract around that $700k mark.
