There is an interesting outcome to the Gutho contract saga.

If the club signs him, there will be criticism from all sides that the incumbents (O'Neil and Gurr ) have failed and the player manager took advantage of the so called inexperience. The media will lap it up.

Itf by some chance he signs elsewhere, the fans and sponsors will criticise them even more heavily and question yet again the way that the club handles negotiations.

O'Neil,in particular needs to articulate what is going on, what went on etc., he has no profile in this matter which is strange.

In summary, this has become an almost no win situation for the CEO and HOF , they have been allowed the media and player manager to assume the upper hand. A very difficult and tricky stalemate for the club to come out on top no matter the outcome.

You do know you can approach the club and make an enquiry don't you. Happens all the time with other clubs but apparently not ours according to some of our fans. The Nikorima potential move is a current case in point.

Nikorima has clause in his contract allowing him leave at the end of this year:

One can’t help but think gutho either wants top dollar from us or may return to manly. He’s really stating to look like a twat imo. Thankfully it wasn’t solely BA’s decision otherwise he may of buckled in to there original figure. He’s a good player on his day but not quite elite and may never be.

Latrell isn’t a fullback. He doesn’t have the fitness and I doubt the ability to get it, he just doesn’t have the build for the level of fitness required.

Sorry but hasn't shown enough to me to believe he'll only ever be a fringe first grader. Tell me one game where he has shown anything like taking control, or doing a fancy play or dominating his opposition, anything special? Just appears to be coasting along to me and we're not a team able to afford players coasting.

Gee imagine a 20 year rookie with only 10 games, not playing in his best position, not dominating in the NRL.......

I heard a CEO or some other merkin (Gould ?) say the other day that clubs like to re-sign or move on players / coaches a year before their contract is up simply because of how the media turn it into a circus. I am sure that we had a plan to do this, if it wasn't for the wooden spoon that changed the landscape entirely. As you say, no winners in this - expect for the player managers who will remain blameless.

Hoffman hasn’t played fullback consistently in first grade for years. In fact he hasn’t played anywhere in the back line consistently for years. He doesn’t even get the regular fullback gig in reserve grade FFS. Often Bevan French or even Will Smith gets the nod in front of him at Wenty who we just agreed is Crap

Bevan French is a twig who does not like physicality. That is why he’s a reserve grader.

Gutherson hasn’t played fullback consistently either and he’s slow. I guess that makes him a reserve grader too.

What? He's played the whole of this season in the position so far (and doing it pretty well) and pretty much played there most of last season. When was the last time Hoffman, French or Will Smith played most of a season at fullback in first grade? French would be most recent but even then it's a few years ago and he was often playing wing as well

Raiders didn’t until well into the offseason and they are going ok........

Yep, the good thing about our current setup with board elections is that they don't have to worry as much about appeasing fans like previous boards.

And manly have a similar amount of players off-contract this year yet not one word about that in the media, because they're irrelevant and their fans probably don't care how many or which of their players are off-contract.

This is a very good point. I hope somebody is in French's ear telling him to work hard because there could be an opportunity. If Gutherson splits I would cross train him at centre for the rest of the year and get French some opportunities at the back.
