And don't forget Laney's offloads on the left edge.I am warming to the idea of French running up the middle off of Junior offloads and Moses inside balls.

He missed the start of the year, came back early, and then got injured again. In a team that was getting smashed it's no wonder he was so poor

Are you talking about French last year? He played in round 1, 2 and 3 last year before being dropped for catting it.
He missed most of pre season. I had recalled him missing a couple of rounds early, obviously not, but the point still stands.
And the fact that you refer to him injuring himself in Rd 3 as catting it demonstrates the gist of that point tbh
https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/04/26...n-killing-injection-contributed-to-his-axing/[Brad] pulled me into his office at training and sort of explained why I was dropped and I couldn't blame him, it was the right thing to do."
Brown and Salmon in the halves will set us back a year.I’m not fussed.
You mean when Parra said he was 'injured' but French himself later admitted to being dropped for his lack of effort?
Well it was supposedly $700k before he went open to the market (accepting offers). I reckon he would have already signed had we got close to that figure a month or two ago. As it turned out we played silly buggers and made small incremental increases to our offer and that may it may not be the end figure they’ll accept (although I think it probably is).How is he f**king it up if we offer $650k and we refuse to meet his asking of $750k (obviously amounts are guesses) ?
Extra $100k for gutho, extra $50k for mannah extra $75k for Manu, extra $50k for Jennings to stay, all starts to add up.
Can’t see any problem with the club setting a value and sticking to it.
Also it’s not like gutho has been playing like the first 6 rounds for the last 2-3 years, to show he can consistently perform at the level a $750k deal deserves.
...and I reckon they have brought either outcome upon themselves. There is an interesting outcome to the Gutho contract saga.
If the club signs him, there will be criticism from all sides that the incumbents (O'Neil and Gurr ) have failed and the player manager took advantage of the so called inexperience. The media will lap it up.
Itf by some chance he signs elsewhere, the fans and sponsors will criticise them even more heavily and question yet again the way that the club handles negotiations.
O'Neil,in particular needs to articulate what is going on, what went on etc., he has no profile in this matter which is strange.
In summary, this has become an almost no win situation for the CEO and HOF , they have been allowed the media and player manager to assume the upper hand. A very difficult and tricky stalemate for the club to come out on top no matter the outcome.
How close do you reckon we should have gotten to the supposed $700k?Well it was supposedly $700k before he went open to the market (accepting offers). I never said pay over for those other players and I personally wouldn’t because there are alternatives on the open market.
Fullback is a far more important position, there’s a distinct lack of quality on the market, we don’t have a feasible option internally and he’s our captain. Sometimes you have to pay a bit more than you were hoping for quality. This is one of those occasions.
I would have started at $650k but I think he’s worth $700k to us in the current environment. Anything under that figure would be a bonus. How close do you reckon we should have gotten to the supposed $700k?
Because Gutho was far from our worst player last year. Bevan was...multiple times. It's also stunning that Gutho gets the benefit of the doubt from many for his lack of fitness last year, but French doesn't?

He was playing injured. Players don’t start catting it for no reason. Are you talking about French last year? He played in round 1, 2 and 3 last year before being dropped for catting it.
Especially considering he’s only worth $500k as a player. He brings no experience and ordinary goalkicking. How much are his leadership and waning popularity worth? How close do you reckon we should have gotten to the supposed $700k?
French was playing out of position. Gutherson is a true utility to the point where nobody knows his true position. At every position he lacks something essential to be elite (speed or kicking) or his work rate is wasted.Because Gutho was far from our worst player last year. Bevan was...multiple times.
Cause his manager is a merkin? I have no idea why. Do you?
No let’s not ‘wait and see’. Both parties need to be made aware that the player’s popularity with the fans is declining quickly. We need to keep making noise about this.Think about it mate. I assume you are bright enough right? But how would you react if you were being low balled(even if it is only in your own mind initially) and then knew if you could eventually(as was stated by his manager up front when the initial low offer was made) go on the open market and use the media to get more then what you intended to get in the first place if your client started to play really well. Especially knowing that there weren't any other Number 1's on the market that were better during this period?
If you dick around with negotiations with a commodity that could easily go up in value or down then don't be surprised if the asking price rises when you have pissed off the other party and the said commodity has increase its market value. To me shows very poor and inexperienced negotiating skills by our football department. Like I said lets just wait and see how this circus pans out.
Yeah! f**k you Gutho! Hurry up and sign pleaseNo let’s not ‘wait and see’. Both parties need to be made aware that the player’s popularity with the fans is declining quickly. We need to keep making noise about this.
Yep. $700k over 3 years sounds generous enough taking everything into consideration. This is a line in the sand stance for the club and players going forward when negotiating future contracts.I would have started at $650k but I think he’s worth $700k to us in the current environment. Anything under that figure would be a bonus.
