Origin / international quality is around the 900 - 1 million mark. Players like Tedesco , tommy T, RTS and Ponga when he gets his next contract

Gutho is prob next on the list at the level below those guys. I’d rate him about 5th best in the game right now. What would you pay the 5th best?

FWIW Moses Mbye is on close to 700. Gutho is a shitload better than him

In the current market, I can’t see why Gutho shouldn’t expect a contract around that $700k mark.

IMO, Gutho is probably about 5th in the pecking order behind Teddy, Tom T, RTS and Ponga as far as fullbacks go.

I think the original $700k was a fair valuation he and his manager placed on him.

Neither is paying three quarters of a million dollars for a solid first grader with less than a hundred games under his belt.

You do realise said marquee player will no doubt be fielding offers from most of the other clubs in the competition so we would need to be a more desirable proposition. I’m not confident we are and a few losses could see our appeal drop dramatically.

We have a good (but not great) young fullback, who happens to have a fantastic attitude and is the leader of this club. As the saying goes, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”.

Are we a better proposition than the tigers? Possibly but there wouldn’t be much in it. By your logic we’ll be paying overs for anyone we recruit into the club anyway, so why is there so much aversion to paying “supposed” overs for a bloke who is already at the club and has indicated he is keen to stay?

Openly stated that the offer for Gutho at $650k for 3 years is slightly overs for his ability but as club captain it's acceptable, if Manly offer $750k for 4 years it's madness and he should sign immediately.

When a reporter that has no player manager links or agendas reports the story as it should, then I guess it's the truth. He mentioned that Ayoub is known for these tactics, and that Gutho has not acted well in the whole drama.

Webster has been the voice of reason during this kerfuffle. So what is Gutho waiting for - IF the offer is genuine ? Merkins like Peter Peters would get giggly if they force us to pay overs for a player they had no intention of signing.

A little bit overs is understandable, but Gutherson is worth $500k as a player. You merkins are vastly overrating him based on a narrow sample behind a team playing well.
