Rumours and Stuff

On French, I get he has his issues especially with rucking it out and Gutho is obviously the better player.

However with French he hasn’t really had a good run with injures, in 2017 and 2018 he has had his far share of injuries.

Additionally with his frame, he was always going to need a few years to get it up physically for regular NRL.

It’s quite possible with a good run without injuries he could improve a fair bit. He definitely has some potential. He was pretty good in 2017 when playing fullback - still recall the games against dragons/broncos.

Anyhow let’s hope Gutho comes to his senses and accepts our reasonable offer.
And another thing in French's favour is our williness to offload more now. In that environment he would thrive imo. He has something that Gutho hasn't and that is speed and is more skillful.

Other option for French is to further develop into a half in Wenty. Has played a few games there and apparently starred.

On one hand, You can't hold it against a young player for getting the most out of a contract negotiation. on the other hand, its a bit stupid. What is he to gain out of it? If he moves to Manly, he won't be the Captain. He might cause his knee to go out again.

Parra is on the upward trend and clearly that makes no difference to him.

Agreed.
The big selling point for him for a Manly move is that he seems to like/love Manly which is another factor making me like him that slight bit less.
If a guy spends 4 years at Parra and still has a soft spot for Manly there is something wrong with him and I question if he is Eels materiel.

He worth more than $500k, Pou.
He's worth more on the back of his efforts and tireless running, he's not explosive and has possibly slowed a touch after 2 ACLs. The offer made is sensible and slight overs, he has really performed poorly in all of this as a captain and a leader. Tend to think that his appreciation from the fans has dimmed.

Good luck if he takes the cash, but he, Ayoub and the Kent disciples have pushed him into an ordinary corner. It's at the stage where he may need to make the decision and if needed- go already. That's from somene who really likes him and what he brings.

We’re obviously not wanting to spend that much on a fullback or we’d just give it to him. The obvious downside is what fullback is available that is anywhere near Gutho’s quality?
The real question here is what is his market worth? According to reports no club has yet made an offer except Manly MAY. And I doubt they'll offer anywhere near $750k or the fullback spot to him. So his market worth is what our club thinks he's worth, and that is $650k. Gutho thinks he is an elite fb and wants elite money, but he isn't. He's very good but lacks any footballers main asset, speed, so he'll never be elite.

What’s interesting with the gutho contract negotiations, is that he has been off contract since November and not one club except Manly this week, has been suggested as having serious interest in him (and I suspect this is just a staged meeting by the agent to pressure the eels, yes manly are interested but not at the amounts wanted by team gutho)

Normally with a player off contract the media normally report, x, y, club are interested. But nothing with gutho!

Moses Mbye is apparently on $750k.
W-T is/was a desperate club and paid over for Mbye and also Reynolds who is on $800k apparently. Eels were a desperate club that paid overs, hopefully they are not desperate anymore and will only pay decent money for decent players. Gutho will be the test case on that.

Bluff Guth and his slime ball management, sick of hearing about it. Would rather be talking about a massive game against the Dragons instead we are still talking about this.

Is this the behaviour of a captain and leader who loves the club??

No. Hopefully it gets sorted soon. I need to get some work done.

I mean it's pretty clear this is driven entirely by Sam Ayoub.

Obviously Gutho could be more proactive for sure, but he comes across as the kind of player who would prefer to stay out of that side of it. He's not blameless but this is classic Ayoub.

For eg, would anyone be shocked if Ayoub was telling Gutho "we've got 750 at Manly so let's try for 700 at Parra cos you want to stay" without having anything from Manly?

Nothing would surprise me from a grub like Ayoub, but surely Guth should realises that this saga is starting to hurt the team and his reputation???

If you ask fellow supporters what their opinion is of Gutho currently, it is completely opposite to 2 weeks ago. The females in my family were massive fans and loved Gutho. They now have turned off him to the extent that he is reacted to the same as JH. They don’t want to know as they feel rightly or wrongly massively betrayed

We're obviously going to lose the game against Dragons. That much media spotlight on one player can't be good for the team.

Is it possible it’s not just Gutho’s manager leaking? There are some rumours that another agent may also be leaking to help his client.
