And for a club that doesn't have a much superior fullback (like us) then is 750 overs?

Eventually Mahoney and Drown will need upgrades. If we offer gutho 750 and extend Moses what’s left in the kitty for those players? The team needs balance, not quite sure gutho is the answer if he’s seeking elite money

It's difficult to understand just how smart people of NRL360 are. After his second ACL , having a so so season , playing less than half the games , joint captain of the team finishing last and playing awful, the club offered a pretty decent $450k contract, of course Kent and others would have immediately committed $700k to keep him and ward off other clubs. What club would pay that after last season etc.

The team wins a few games and he plays well and the club ups their contract offers, his manager moves the goal posts trying to screw the club for more money and the club holds fast.

Then the genius that is Kent , Crawley and Hooper reinvent history and state plainly that there should have been a huge contract offer to start with. Really, they take first prize for knowing everything and obviously are never wrong, that's why they are reporters and not involved in administration .

Gutho may win more money, not sure he is winning any fans at the Eels after telling everyone how committed he Is And how the club looked after him, not a good look currently.

Yeah I like the bit where they said we lowballed him. Lol all clubs have had ample opportunities to sign him since November and not one taker to date. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing, but these guys are absolute twats. I’d love for gutho to stay as much as the next bloke, at the right price and without the drawn out circus. But if wants to chase the $$$ we’ve lost far better players than him in recent times and still managed to survive.

I am hopeful the club doesn't go to the $750k level for Gutho.
I mentioned on Friday that the club was not wanting to set a precedent by bending over the player managers and I fully support this... there was one other thing I was led to believe which I haven't shared until now.
One other reason for not spending overs on any player is that they want to make a play for a "superstar marquee" player. Now I have no idea who that might be (I don't think the club does either as yet) but the impression I got was that they are preparing to spend big on the right player for 2020 when they become available.

And players from Manly (like Fainu) and every other team will need upgrades too. It's the nature of lots of young players contracts. It's not unique to Parra. Plenty of teams have million dollar players on their books. We don't have any. We are hardly in salary cap strife. We reportedly have 600k left over for this year. Use some of that to upgrade and extend those players rather than holding out for George dick hands Burgess to come prior to June 30.

You’d think it was Ray Price at his peak that was leaving. f**k him, I’d now put a deadline on the offer and go all out for Ponga in 2021.

Or bring back semi and move fergo to the centres/fullback and give French another shot.

I reckon it’s Ponga.

If true holding out for a superstar marquee player but not having an idea who that player is doesn't sound like a great recruitment plan

If Mahoney and Drown keep developing I’d rather lose gutho than any of those two. Just saying.

Maybe they know more than us about who might be becoming available and they have a hit list?

Hey? It's about two years from now.

It's called planning ahead. If it's true, all they've basically said is that they want to keep the squad balanced and keep money in the 2021 cap.

Beyond that, well of course they won't be sure exactly who yet. We don't know who we'll have yet...

We could lose Moses (or he could go to shit and we let him go) so then we look for a super halfback. Gutho could (maybe will) leave, and suddenly that need might move to fullback. If both those stay, maybe we look at a gun strike centre, or a back rower, or a prop....and so on. Hell maybe they've been having words with Semi Radradra for all we know.

There's a lot to happen before you lock in a 2021 roster, but you need to be starting to plan for it all the same

2years from now? I thought MJC was referring to next year?

I took that to mean the player becomes available in 2020

Either way, the point you've ignored still stands.

Why look at a marquee half or fullback if we can sign up Moses and Gutherson? Those won't be areas of need, because both those guys are near enough to elite and cost much less. Maybe then we go out and nab a top flight centre to run off them

You have to settle you in house roster before you talk about what you go out and buy. I'd have thought that was pretty basic

And lets not forget that we are now "A Development Club".

Neither is paying three quarters of a million dollars for a solid first grader with less than a hundred games under his belt.

I love that phrase. The fans are all “we got the best juniors bro” . Doesn’t it just mean we try and buy the best kids around the age of 17/18 and bring them through? Like that other development club the Roosters?

It’s not a bad thing. It’s just a great buzz word
