reckon it went like this:

MON - Ah Rankin isn’t travelling with squad. Let’s see who is available as a halves replacement. Milf could be an option
BA - na not that keen on MILF but come back to me if he is available
MON - makes enquires.
Media - gets into media
MON - see’s no value in pursuing. MILF/Broncos asking to much. BA not to keen either.
MON - Case closed.

MON doing his job in keeping on top of the squad management side.
On NRL360 they said we have plenty of money left in the cap. Looking at our roster Mon is doing a fantastic job if we have plenty left.

Xavier Savage's NRL career could've looked very different to how it has panned out so far.

Savage starred for the Green Machine against the Titans on Saturday night but according to Triple M's news breaker Brent Read the teenager was actually shopped around the NRL just weeks ago.

I just don't get that. We are mad. The one thing we lack more then anything else is speed and this guy is probably the fastest in the game, especially from a standing start and skill to match. So he is being offered around the game and we pass? What the...? 🤮 He would have been so freakin cheap too. 🤮🤮 And our JAC at the end of our backline and a ready made replacement if Gutho went down. 🤮🤮🤮

Would Pangai be a good buy, just for this year, to add real mongrel to our pack for our run into and for finals?
Is his heart gonna be in it? .... he has already secured a "real" contract going forward .... he seems to have had some motivational issues in the past

From listening to that podcast, he was only offered to Melbourne and Brisbane. Hard for us to pass mate if not given an opportunity.

I don't know if we have "plenty of money" in the cap ..... they seemed to suggest we have some room to fit in other player(s) this year ..... that doesn't mean money in the cap in the long run

In this case, 'offered around' seems like code for his manager asking other clubs what they would pay so he could wedge the Raiders. They obviously wanted him to stay, he's probably the reason why they told Dufty to f of.

I wish MON wanted to sign X. Savage. Would have been a steal instead of that little has been fat f**k Milf. 😡
To be fair, MILF was briefly considered for a 14 spot for the last dozen games.

Other clubs said no thanks to the player, his price or both. Maybe they know something you don't?

I'm a tad scarred over Bevan French TBH, his 2016 season was extraordinary because of his sheer speed. Then clubs worked him out and exposed his empty bag of tricks

Mate, if he was offered to them then I'm sure since we are a top 4 side if we came a knocking that they/he would have been interested. We would have known about it, there are no secrets in RL and signing a player like him wouldn't have gotten the squads nose out of joint like the Milf could do and he would have been virtually free, especially for the remainder of this year. Massive blunder. We need speed, speed, speed and then some more speed!

we already have rookie backs in Will, Russell, the Fijian winger, Dunster and the other Haze (plus what ever other rookies in the system the club is getting to do the NRL offseason), so don’t think another rookie is required at this stage…..

especially a 19 year old already ruled out for the season after 1 NRL game…….

On non Parra players I am looking forward to see how Lachlan Lewis plays this season. He excites me(not in a gay way) and I think he will be a better player then Moses will eventually turn out.

I would rather him and Brown long term then volatile Moses to be honest. But we will see.

Like I said before, Moses is our season one way or another.
Hey @TheRam, remember when you said this? I agree some speed would be good, but don't go accusing the club of making a massive blunder by not signing savage when he wasn't actually available to sign.

X. Savage is no French. He doesn't shy away from the collision and goes looking for work all over the park. Look with the way the game is played now due to the new rules, players like him are a must and will excel in the NRL now. The wrestle has been nullified to a certain extent and the spaces that are there now, especially for the better teams and players that want to support the ball carrier(and he definitely is one of those types) will be the stars of our game. He would have been perfect for our backline. Oh well. ☹️

Hey @TheRam, remember when you said this? I agree some speed would be good, but don't go accusing the club of making a massive blunder by not signing savage when he wasn't actually available to sign.

Yep, and I don't rate him as a half all that well, because he is to slow in everything he does. But he is a really good defender. He would probably make a better lock if he put his mind to it. Remember, I said what I said after only watching a handful of games and being very frustrated with Moses's yoyo performances. Notice I said I want to see how he goes. That tells you that I was not convinced yet or had seen enough to make a final call on him. Since then I have seen enough of Lewis to know that he is not a 6 or 7 in this now even faster NRL game. Moses has also gotten somewhat more consistent too. Remember our coach too, wanted to punt Moses at the time for his indifferent performances. So I wasn't alone in not wanting Moses at the time. Since then he had his attitude adjustment and gotten better, but still isn't great, but can do a job for us I suppose.

The point is we are a top 4 team now and we don't need to take risks or sign baggage players that may disrupt our squad. X. Savage is neither of those. He would have been cheap and would have brought what we lack the most. Speed. You just need to watch the way he moves and his hunger for the ball to know he will be successful baring injury. Look there are some players that you kind of get a feel from the moment you see them that they are special. He is one of those. Another resent example, I remember when I watched Brian To'o make his NRL debut, I told my work colleagues at the time that I think that this kid at the Panthers is going to be a real good one. Most laughed at me at the time because they said he was to small. Well guess what?

Like I said, some players just move better and their body language is a little better then the rest or they just seem to know when to be around the ball. Could X. Savage be a one game wonder? Sure, but I wouldn't be betting on it, especially if we keep the wrestle to a minimum and attack is paramount over defense the way it is now.

Look I don't know what some of you people are watching, truthfully, I mean I read here by some of you that Matt Lodge is shite and the game has passed him by with the new rules, yadda, yadda. yadda... Well I think that you are all tripping. The guy has been one of the best for the Bronc's this year and last year too, even while playing busted for a large chunk of it. He was playing in a team of lackluster, undisciplined, young yoyo's that don't have any fortitude or steel in them yet. So sure there were times that he may have looked ordinary. But who hasn't in that team? They've somehow even made P. Haas look second rate at different stages of the last couple of seasons. Point is in a better team that has a little more resilience then the current Broncos have, he will be a very good player. It hasn't taken him long either. He did what he has been doing at the Broncos, but now he has a team around him that are also putting in and look at him now. STAR!

Anyway rant over.

I agree with you. Savage will probably be great. I also agree that some raw speed is one of our missing pieces of a nearly complete puzzle. My argument is with you bollocking the club for not just going out and buying him based on what some crap talker journo made up to make himself look like he is in the know.

FFS - why?

^^^^^^

Pangai has made it clear and his management has made it clear that he wants to finish the season at a club that will compete for a premiership.

“But my sources indicate the Eels are the most likely place for him to end up. They are interested in Anthony Milford.

“They would prefer Pangai, it’s a tricky one for a few clubs because Tevita is on a big contract so notionally he has to enter the cap at a higher figure.

“The Eels are one of the few clubs who could afford that and he would be fantastic for them of the bench.”
