Rumours and Stuff

If we lose RCG, I don't think we will be anywhere near as powerful a forward pack as we are now, bar someone or enough others step up and fill the void, which is a big ask.
Of course we aren’t as good without RCG, but Grieg/Kaufusi both have potential and are big/powerful.

Kaufusi has already played 44 games at 22 years old, RCG had only played 24 at the same age.

Plus we could recruit a decent replacement. Or we may decide to go with a “lighter” pack.

So Matterson who lost his place in the starting team for a game and rumours of being on the outer is on $500k+, and our best performing forward with RCG this year gets offered $425K? OK, sure that will work.

When you low ball someone there is an art to it and you need to know what the smart low ball figure is. That was just ridiculous. The market is in a fever state right now for the obvious reason of the new franchise entering an already intense market. So we need to be smart and come in with a reasonable offer to the players we want to keep and not give them cause to trigger the open market option where anything can happen.

He should have been given $500k offer up front and that way the he and his manager would probably not have felt insulted and therefore not opted to go straight to the open market. Then they could have sat down like proper negotiators that want a similar outcome, somewhere the player wants to stay and play and give a little back to the club and coach that helped him realise his full potential.

Instead we have created a full on adversarial atmosphere. A you against me scenario. So off to the open market we go merkins and now you are going to pay close to what others think I am worth or I may say thanks for the memories, but pop the Champaign bottle and fill my glass. See ya later suckers! Ooh I love how those bubbles make my nose tickle. Now pass the caviar losers and turn up the music. Make it rain baby, make it rain!!!
We pretty much did offer papa something closer to $500k then $400k….

The top sides are the ones that don't overpay, or overpay as little as possible. You seem to think it's the shit sides with everyone on unders, but it doesn't really make sense.
The top sides seem to have the best coaches, which I think helps with recruitment. You said yourself that the Storm lose a sprinkling of players every year and are still at the top or there abouts. Surely coaching plays a pretty significant role in that. I think you underestimate their value.

So very true, top teams don’t lose their top players, unless they are willing, we are miles away from that culture!!!

Unfortunately Brad does not, and never will have that sort of attraction.

So @TheRam you may want to laugh, but here it is:

Parramatta are willing to upgrade his $200,000 contract to about $275,000 next year, but the Eels aren’t budging on their $425,000-a-season offer as part of a two-year extension for 2023 and 2024.

At Parramatta, he’s on a deal worth around $150,000 a season.

After taking a significant, six-figure pay cut from his last Warriors deal to sign for less than $200,000-a-year, Papali'i is the form back-rower of the NRL.

So we offered him $425k plus an upgrade for 2022 of at least $75k , so our offer is at least $462k assuming his contract was $200k for 2022. However reports suggest the SMH may have rounded that figure up a bit.

anyhow $462k is closer to $500k then $400k….

They are all going to the open market because there is uncertainty about how much everyone is worth now an extra team is pushing demand up. There's no way to avoid market forces. The only players with an idea of how much they're worth are the ones down near minimum salary and the ones at the top of the Dolphins' shopping list, who will have informal offers already. Everyone else will be keen to find out just how much they can get. There will be bargains left over when the dust settles and we won't be in a position to pick them up if we've filled our cap paying overs to retain our own players.

I don't know if this has been reported elsewhere, but Buzz in his shoosh sinner saint thing is reporting that Joey left because of one of the players having a very high opinion of himself, and not being keen on taking instructions. GEE, I WONDER WHO THAT WAS???

I don't think it's even arguable.

Well, I mean, like I pointed out earlier, the only statistic that Tedesco is miles ahead of Gutherson is tackle breaks.

Mind you - I am aware that Gutherson's run stats are likely skewed by the fact he makes more runs per game than Tedesco...

But I suppose the point of me comparing their statistics was to show that Gutherson is playing almost as well as Tedesco, who many consider the benchmark.

Buy yes - Tedesco is a better attacking player, no question.

I think the same thing that gets them the best coaches also helps them sign players cheaper. You're assuming a causality that starts with signing the best coach.

And you believe what you've read there?
