I swear that clubs who sign opposition players post Nov 1 for the season that doesn't commence until 18 months later (like the Warriors have with Marata) always have in the back of their minds that they'll agitate to get the player released early and get them for the next immediate season... It's a shit system but I'm not sure what the answer is.

I hope we don't release Marata, I think he's a key piece in the puzzle if we are any chance of challenging in 2022.

Tbh if he wants to leave now is he really going to put in 100% for us every week. I'd rather give Rodwell a go reckon he'll be the better player out of the two. He was a real standout in that Penrith game and that's against the premiership-winning team. Also, it was his first NRL game, imagine where he could go in a couple of years.

Why wouIdn’t he put in 100%? I doubt Marata is the type of player to take it easy, even TCT mention at training Marata only knows how to go at one pace and give 110%….

anyhow reckon it’s bit misleading suggesting players won’t put in 100% after signing with other clubs. 99% of players leaving will still put in, it’s probably one of biggest attributes of a league player making it in the NRL…their competitiveness…no matter what ….

Yep, he’s a chance to win a comp next year, just like Burton at the Riff. I bet he’s glad he stayed and didn’t go to the spoon winning dogs.

Actually alot of players seem to ease off after re signing with their current club

I think if there is a release now type thing, the Warrior's should transfer some of their cap space to us.

Well, that's what would happen? The balance of Marata's contract to 31/10/21 goes on their books. The NRL aint going to accept anything more than that (unless they back-pay him I guess).

I don't pay that much attention to media. Gutherson is our highest profile player off contract. General nrl fans do not know who Papali'i, Marata are. Mahoney and RCG although bigger names still do not have the profile of the King. And neither are club captains. He is in the media a lot due to being a club captain of PARRA. The club most fans want to read about.
And this points to a fact that maybe isn't getting the attention it deserves.

While I'm pissed at Gutherson for allowing his manager to play this out in the media, maybe Ayoub isn't the one initiating this. It's entirely possible the media are driving this drama because Eels-in-Crisis! sells clicks or whatever the f**k they sell these days. It could be reasonably argued that Ayoub can refuse to speak to the media, but from his perspective why should he have to? His job is to get every club to pay overs for his players. But since some clubs are more susceptible to media pressure than others it makes sense that those are better targets, and that the Ayoubs of the world will find it useful to treat more stable clubs with more respect.

Until we are seen as bulletproof with our fanbase we will remain stuck in this cycle of media pressure over unmet expectations. It would be nice to blame Gutho/Arthur's/Joey Grima but our club has been stuck in this rut for a long time. The recent constitution change was a real circuit breaker though. Patience is required to see the long term effects.

Excellent player is Drinkwater.
I read an article that since our former consultant coach has returned to Newy 2 days per week he is working with AO'B to revamp Newys attack. It will be interesting to watch the results.
Apparently he did a shit job at the eels, so why would he make a diff up there ? All and sundry complained that our attack was tired and boring.

Sounds like he’ll be more hands on at Newy, he just worked with the halves and spine at Parra. Seems like he’s working on attacking structures as well at Newy. He didn’t have to do that here because we have the coaching nous of Murph.

I mean nobody cares about Canberra or Newcastle etc. There are a few clubs that the general public lap up and one is Parra. I'd say they are no 1 tbh. And the biggest players out our club are Clint and Moses. Nobody else would generate as much interest from fans. Gutherson being captains and a more loveable character makes him one of the biggest profiles to generate interest. I can only think of a handful of players that would generate more.
One of those being Nathan Cleary and that whole saga played on for 6mths.
