Apparently he did a shit job at the eels, so why would he make a diff up there ? All and sundry complained that our attack was tired and boring.
I guess thats the point Gronky. Was he restricted to working with specific players on specific skills at Our Eels or was his role to work on team attacking structures? From numerous reports he wasnt involved within "the whole team".
Johns or not, Rheed and Mitch definitely improved under his watch and I also reckon there were new elements introduced into Drowns game as well. I didnt notice anything different about Guthos game during Joeys tenure so all in all his involvement was successful in my opinion. If his role is expanded at Newy and it proves successful does that mean we underutilised him for whatever reason? It will be interesting viewing nonetheless.

Lot's of speculation here and there. Joey is only going to Newy two days a week too as a consultant. As much as a few here want to pile on the anti, I think that they're drawing a long bow to now suggest that Johns was underutilized and prevented from influencing our shape.

Arguably the sharpest playmaking mind in rugby league, Johns is hired at the Eels as a specialist development coach and Arthur believes he is having an increased influence on the pair in 2021.

In 2020 Johns was forced to coach from afar due to COVID protocols, but this year his ability to provide direction in person has benefitted the young duo.

“Joey Johns for instance had to coach from over the fence last season, but now he’s back and hands on,” Arthur said on SEN 1170 Mornings with Matty White.

“That is a big help, Joey was great last season, but now he has that one-on-one interaction with the halves and as a group… the face-to-face time with them is great.”

Arthur explained how Johns is nurturing the dynamic pair twice a week, as well as developing a raft of other young Eels.

“He’s been here twice a week, spending a lot of time with those guys (Moses and Brown) and developing the younger guys as well,” he added https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/02...elping-dynamic-eels-duo-reach-the-next-level/

Papalii is as good as gone. Having another meeting tomorrow with the Tigers. $$ to good and 3rd party sponsors.
Like I said before I think that he's going to regret going there. He's only had one good season. He forgets that we gave him a lifeline when no one wanted him. Shows how much loyalty players have these days.

I think if there is a release now type thing, the Warrior's should transfer some of their cap space to us.

For sure, you'd almost expect it. He's contracted for unders, and we lose the advantage of that, I'd only be considering it if the Warriors paid us the difference between his 2022 contract and his 2023 contract.
Well, that's what would happen? The balance of Marata's contract to 31/10/21 goes on their books. The NRL aint going to accept anything more than that (unless they back-pay him I guess).

That's a given, but in the case we let him go, we should be compensated for the value we lose in doing so.
And this points to a fact that maybe isn't getting the attention it deserves.

While I'm pissed at Gutherson for allowing his manager to play this out in the media, maybe Ayoub isn't the one initiating this. It's entirely possible the media are driving this drama because Eels-in-Crisis! sells clicks or whatever the f**k they sell these days. It could be reasonably argued that Ayoub can refuse to speak to the media, but from his perspective why should he have to? His job is to get every club to pay overs for his players. But since some clubs are more susceptible to media pressure than others it makes sense that those are better targets, and that the Ayoubs of the world will find it useful to treat more stable clubs with more respect.

Until we are seen as bulletproof with our fanbase we will remain stuck in this cycle of media pressure over unmet expectations. It would be nice to blame Gutho/Arthur's/Joey Grima but our club has been stuck in this rut for a long time. The recent constitution change was a real circuit breaker though. Patience is required to see the long term effects.

100% the media are driving it, Ayoub just makes it easy for them playing along, and obviously believes he can leverage it to his advantage.

From our perspective, I think the best thing we can do is what we're doing, refusing to buy into it and feed it further.

As much as a like Papalii he may as well take the dollars on offer at the tigers, it's massive overs based on one season.
He won't play finals at the tigers for years so if he goes it's only for money.

Pretty disappointing basically our decision to lowball him opened up the door for a desperate club like the tigers to pounce.

500-550k probably would have been enough to keep him before going to open market i reckon.

He is 23 with the prime ahead of him.

Losing niukore as well we have had our backrow stripped out.

Would rather have lost junior paulo tbh who is 6 years older then papali'i
