I wanted BA gone if we could replace him with someone like Bennett or Trent Robinson. I thought Shane Flanagan was a possibility however I spoke to some people in the know and they told me things and I changed my mind about him. Many clubs agree which is why he is now coaching North Macedonia.

I also spoke to a current player at Parra over a coffee and he gave me some insights on BA. He was very complimentary on him as a man and a coach. Sorry to big note but I know some people that know shit more than both of us.

When I was armed with all this information I supported BA’s extension because he was the best option.

Flip flop flip flop flip.
I bet it wasn't Mahoney who you had a coffee with lol.

This article has quotes from Michael ennis about the signing.

Seems he was a key driver behind this decision
Thats it. Im in. Lets go Hodgo!
You da man.
I guess Rein now knows no matter how well he plays in 22, he wont be around in 23 even though hes 2 years younger than Hodgo. That said, in combination, they could be dynamic. Time will tell. Im excited.

That's all well and good, but @Matty Bhoy also posted here a couple of months ago (from memory) his photos after working out with a couple of Eels like Drown and Ice and saying they all told him they're super jazzed playing for BA and pretty much all off contract players for 2023 were ready to re-sign en masse....

This is 100% not a criticism of @Matty Bhoy or to call in to question his info, I'm just trying to illustrate that what a bloke in negotiations tells a footy fan is something far different from what might actually be happening...

Let's focus on 2022 season. The Eels have a squad as good as any in the competition. The new signings will add further to the strength..that is, in my opinion.
Worry about 2023 and beyond when it arrives. Lots of ball to be kicked before then.
I have a real good feeling about the coming season, especially as how the team completed in 2021 final series.
f**k off with your sensible talk Pete. I'm here for the outrage and cynicism.

“I’m not involved in the recruitment but to see the club has been active pretty quickly shows how important they know that position is on the field and they wanted to make sure they got someone that can really contribute.”

Which reiterates that it's more than likely all about the money. BA actually stated that is was very tough for them to tell him before it became official.

Me too. Ennis has a very good football brain and has been there, done that unlike us nuffies.

This deserved more
The fact of the matter is that BA and his coaching staff have improved every player that is leaving. Of course it’s about the money you f**king idiot! If money was no object and there was no salary cap of course they’d stay.
This is the thing the dumb merkins don't seem to get - we get project/potential/damaged goods players in for four-fifths-of-sweet-f**k-all, & turn them into solid first graders. Other merkins come along and offer 3 or 4 times the amount we originally signed them for and we're expected to match it. f**k that shit. Just go find another. We've been really f**king at it for quite a while now, going back to Danny Wicks.

I think 2023 is very interesting. If BA gets them in the top 6 it would be a great effort on his coaching ability for me.

I reckon Tom Starling will be free to play next year. So I think Hodgson will come to us a year early, and Mahoney will be at the Bulldogs next year. To me that improves our side big time. Also Curtis Scott will come on board. At his best, he's very good. If I'm right, we could start 2022 with:
1. Gutherson
2. Simonsson
3. Waqa Blake
4. Penisini
5. Scott
6. Brown
7. Moses
8. R.C.G.
9. Hodgson
10. Paulo
11. Nuikorai
12. Matterson
13. N. Brown
14. Mitch Rein
15. Kaufusi
16. Papalii
17. Cartwright/Lane
With Dunster, Russell, Sivo, Emu, the Canterbury forward we just bought, and a couple of others I've forgotten, that's a team that could take the title next year.
It's very exciting!

He's the player we need to fulfill his potential if we are every going to challenge for the title.
My fav player HR. Yes Im sure his potential in A is yet to be fulfilled but holy fu*k without his D we would be up sh*t creek without a paddle. Best defensive back in the game. I loved his combination with Marata but unfortunately we dont see that often enough given our "want" to change Niukores position every fu*ken week.
