You know what's going to be fun?

Listening to Sticky's mates on NRL 360 and the broader Fox coverage tell us and everyone what a poisonous influence Hodgson was the last 2 years and how he disregarded Ricky's playbook every time the Raiders lost, even when Hodgson wasn't even playing!!!!
Brandy replacing Giggle Pot was the talk. Oh joy!

I think our GM O’Neil has been watching that movie moneyball and taken it to heart thinking that he’s a negotiator. It’s gone to his head. Out of all the players that left we should kept Papalii. He was tremendous. Don’t care much for Mahoney and his non existent running game. Bulldogs over payed for him.

signing of Hodgson is embarrassing and shows how desperate O’Neil the trolley boy and management were. These guys need to go. They don’t know what they are doing.

However, We need to keep Junior. O’Neil and BA can pack their bags if they fail with Junior.

Our backline looks fast again. I think Dunster will get a starting spot and it will be his to lose. Russel will depend on his off-season.

Gutherson,Simmonson,Blake,Pensini,Scott if started means our NSW CUP backline could be

Russel, Dunster, Opacic, Perham, Sivo. Quite good back ups to NRL with youth and experience.. You then have Laizou and Naiduki coming through also who all could be smokies for NRL.
And Josh Tuipulotu

Josh Hodgson’s path paved the way for fellow Poms

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart, who has lauded Hodgson with the ultimate compliment, while confessing the Green Machine were on a mission to send their champion hooker out with an NRL premiership next year.
Stuart made the comments - and reaffirmed Hodgson wouldn’t be leaving the club in 2022 - after it was confirmed the 32-year-old had signed a two-year deal to join Parramatta from 2023.
“We’d love to do something special next year for Josh.’’
Stuart was firm when asked if there was any possibility that Hodgson wouldn’t see out the final 12 months of his contract.
Josh will be here in 2022,” he said. “An early departure doesn’t even need to be mentioned.”
Stuart added that he was disappointed to lose winger Bailey Simonsson to the Eels. The Raiders acquisition and return of local product Nick Cotric from the Bulldogs will be formally announced next week.

I honestly don’t get the Papali’i hype. Sure he had a breakout season in 2021, but he showed little promise in his previous 4. The reality is that we signed him on a bargain basement contract. There were people on this very forum a year ago that criticised his signing and argued that it was a step back from Takairangi!
Sure he’s proven them all wrong, but will he sustain his 2021 form? That’s a big if to bet $600k+ on when there’s a tight salary cap.

Yet it’s ok for you to make bullshit assumptions on a daily basis.
When I take the opposite position to your assumptions I'm showing you the folly of your ways. I don't actually think I know how it's going to turn out, but I do think we have good reason to be hopeful. Our club has become far more professional since Mad Max turned it around. This backlash from player managers and willing media is a reaction to that.

This article has quotes from Michael ennis about the signing.

Seems he was a key driver behind this decision

It’s interesting that Ennis has had his finger in the pie here. Remember, all Sharkies fans were up in arms leading into the 2015 season when they lost a very promising young hooker touted to play for Australia in Lichaa.

They got a 31-year-old Ennis in return. They were on the receiving end of heat, not dissimilar of our club at present.

Lichaa went on to be one of the most overrated players of recent memory. He was reportedly signed for 1m over three years; probably 500k~ equivalent per season with todays standings. That’s a lot less than what Mahoney has brokered with the same club.

Ennis and some other older heads like Heighington and Lewis followed. Yeah, it could be said that they were old and battered, but they were also rugged. Tough. Experienced. Winners. We all know how 2016 unfolded. With a Hodgson and the rumoured Sims signing, it is arguable that the club sees a premiership through similar means.

My thoughts? I don’t believe Mahoney will fail ala Lichaa. He will continue to grow and be a good player for years to come. I am dissapointed at him leaving. This differs to how I feel about Papali’i and Niukore leaving, for all reasons previously mentioned. I’d say the blowtorch was put on him to sign the dotted line because it does seem like a hurried decision. For all we know, he could be ruing it already.

I would be inquiring with the Raiders and Bulldogs into whether said deals can transpire a year in advance. Even if it meant Mahoney to the Raiders. Hypothetically, I would much prefer if Mahoney didn’t go to the Dogs with a premiership and had to graft it out there.

I do have genuine concerns about Hodgsons durability and quality once he reaches us. I also remember being mesmerised by Hodgson and I honestly believe he was mixing it with C Smith. If we don’t wrap up a comp in 2022, don’t write off 2023. Just ask a Sharks fan for their thoughts.

He's the player we need to fulfill his potential if we are every going to challenge for the title.
