The point is now you can do it with real quality players that would be more difficult to fit into your roster since the sign on transfer window has been pushed back again this season from the traditional June 30 to August 1.

Clubs can find the money much easier then before seeing it is way less and also the date allows the club that the player is currently at to assess whether they will make the play-offs or not and therefore needed of not.

Ok, here's my comment then. We've lost a lot of talent and signed a 35year old and Bailey Simonsson. Isn't the job of HOF to get us some good players so we could have made a run for the premiership? We're down on troops, did we buy anyone who's on the outer at other clubs?

At the end of this year, we'll get another email - 'We're getting closer'. Apologies, I thought your comment was aimed at me.

Fair enough mate. I thought I heard someone on Tele say it was later again this season. Cool but still, if we can pick up a quality outside back before the deadline it would be a real boast for our team.

Decision justification based on recruitment or anything else directly related to our club won't come until results of said decision/s are evident or in play. Reasoning for decisions can often be misleading and reactionary.

As long as Hodgson performs to 50% or more of what he did at Canberra it has been a good signing IMO (not to mention his off field experience and guidance).

Mahoney is a 500-550k player - There is far more upside and less risk in signing Hodgson to 400k (taking into consideration current circumstances with 2 x young up and coming hookers on our ranks) then there is to signing Mahoney to 650k.

Simonsson I think has been pretty good and probably has some more improvement in him.

There’s a salary cap ffs. You can’t just keep improving your roster forever until you win a comp. You improve it until you hit your best chance (which is never 100% and for most clubs is less than 50%) and then you get some luck. Over a long enough timeline your number comes up and you win a grand final.

You improve it until you hit your best chance (which is never 100% and for most clubs is less than 50%) and then you get some luck. Over a long enough timeline your number comes up and you win a grand final.

I reckon signing players on the outer at other clubs is a double-edged sword - sure, you can get a good deal, but you must ask yourself why they're on the outer in the first place...

When you're trying to install a winning culture, you need o be very careful with he decisions about personnel you bring into the club.

Yep, some clubs can afford to take the risk while others need to. I suspect we are precariously in between.

Not sure but probably. My point was just that Cartwright doesn’t make the team because he is the coaches son whereas JA does arguable which is why people flip out when he is consistently sub par. Cartwright if he makes the team it is on merit.

If you look at the dubious characters that yhe Roosters built their prolonged success on 10 or 12 years ago (Maloney, SBW, Jennings, Fergo etc) it’s hard to work out who has the right character traits.
