Rumours and Stuff

If you look at the dubious characters that yhe Roosters built their prolonged success on 10 or 12 years ago (Maloney, SBW, Jennings, Fergo etc) it’s hard to work out who has the right character traits.

A strong club with strong culture will be able to handle dubious characters somewhat. But usually they end up somewhere else pretty quickly.

The issue is when culturally weak clubs that are easily influenced sign these players out of desperation - and more often then not on overs.

Each of those players you mentioned - despite their off-field dramas - has the intangible qualities of leadership; no doubt, this helped them enormously.

Apparently we are chasing young Paulo from Souths for this year. I really like the young fella strong, fast and a great finisher. Moving him into the centres was a dumb move and I think it affected his confidence and he wasn't ready yet for the change. If we sign him he's strictly on the wing.

I agree, he's a decent winger. But he's not a centre's arsehole.

Do we need more wingers?
When fit we have:
Sivo
Dunster
Simonsson
Russell
Plus a couple of youngsters.

We need at least one more centre to cover for:
Blake
Penisini
Oppa
Drown
I thought that as well initially but Dunster won't be first grade quality next season after his knee injury. Sivo will more than likely leave along with Opacic. But aren't we also interested in Farnworth and Masters as well? Gives us a lot of depth but I agree it's probably not that necessary.

As long as Hodgson performs to 50% or more of what he did at Canberra it has been a good signing IMO (not to mention his off field experience and guidance).

Is there any evidence of this off field experience and guidance you speak of? Just cause a merkin is the wrong side of 30, doesn't automatically mean they're exuding off field guidance and mentorship....

So you reckon with his experience he has no off field benefit?

Hodgson was captain at Canberra (captaining them to a premiership as well) - usually that's a pretty good indicator of someones leadership qualities. Which is why I made the assumption that he will be beneficial off field for us.

Please tell us when Hodgson captained Canberra to a premiership? I don’t think he played in ‘94.

Eels eyeing young Rabbitoh

Parramatta’s prolonged search for an outside back continues with South Sydney’s Jaxson Paulo the latest name on the list.

The Eels have been on the look-out to fill their depleted backline stocks and Paulo is emerging as a potential option for the remainder of this year and next season.

The 22-year-old started the season in first grade but has been relegated to NSW Cup in recent weeks. He is off-contract at season’s end.
