By messing up the bench? Rugby League is a sport of 17 players, 13 on the field and 4 on the bench except for Parra who have 16 players.

If playing that 17th player unnecessarily takes away minutes from a better player then do you really need to play them?

No. Especialy when we have guys in the forwards who can play long minutes and an 80min hooker. If Mahoney was to only play 60mins then I imagine we would use 4 guys every week.
Lane and Papali'i are fine for 80mins. Matto 60mins at lock.
Jnr and RCG 55mins. So we need to find 70mins. If we used 4 forward they would get about 17mins each. Using 3 means about 23mins each. Not exactly huge minutes anyhows.

I am undecided who should be 17. With Marata in the side the backline is covered if an injury that Opacic would cover. I'd argue that someone like W.Smith would be perfect. Could cover 1,6,7,9 and realy even centre.
For now I'd probably blood a guy at 17. If the game is over score wise then give him minutes. Greig perhaps.

I reckon you should be allowed to have 5 on the bench. Utilise only 4 but choose during the game which ones. Like soccer.

Agreed, I'd go 6-8 though. Allows you to carry some forwards, a utility or 2 and some specialised players

Mid-80s is decent for a half or centre. Basically, the more of a player’s attempted tackles that are one-on-one, the higher percentage he will miss. A forward defending at 85% is pretty low, but for a winger I expect it’s probably quite high.

I'm sure N Brown and his mgmt are actively seeking a new club. Very very unlikely he will be playing for us next yr.
You could tell in the presser BA really didn't want to praise him when asked.
He is way better than Makatoa but will be named outside of the 17 come 4pm today. All is not well there

Lost Opacic,Marata,Kafusi,Stone,Papali'i,Mahoney. Six guys who are in our top 18.
Cost about 1.4 mill

Yes we have upgraded some guys. But who and by how much?? I'd imagine Rcg and Guth an extra 100k each. Penisini probably 200k.

I reckon you’re right. Is it a merkin act ? Yes, but do we put loyalty over squad strength? Are players loyal these days ? Well, Reed and Papa could have stayed. Maybe we have no choice but to adopt the same “it’s a business” philosophy, just like players spin the line “I’m just doing the best for my family” ?

I think Hopgood is better than a NSW Cup player and would not have come cheap.

Also, Stefano going to Tigers has taught us a lesson to be more mindful about having cap space for upgrades to emerging NRL players.
