It’s not just about not turning up. We definitely turned up last night. It was the first game this year where we scored first and lost. We were just outclassed.

Merkins are probably disappointed that the Broncos being shit wasn’t the new normal after all. But they are a very wealthy club. They should be challenging for the top four every single year. Look at all their Origin players.
We were not outclassed. Out enthused, out efforted, maybe, but not outclassed. We scored early because of the continual poor early errors by the Broncos. We probably should've scored more than once the chances they gave us. Once they held onto the ball we let them run rampant. We didn't want to commit to making tackles, didn't want to get our bodies in position and get the numbers needed in the tackles. This is nothing to do with ability, but all to do with attitude. It was just all too hard to be bothered to do on the night.

We needed to run harder and tackle harder than our opponents, chase the collision and front load our effort. None of our players were even remotely interested in what was needed.

The only thing we're interested in doing most weeks is run through motions and hope our opponent is even less up for the contest than what we are.

That ability to work hard in defence is an inherent feature of players, and something I include in ‘class’. Lack of it is why two of our best forwards got rissoled from the Origin team. The fact we lost game three doesn’t mean they should’ve kept their spots for game two. Matterson and RCG are quality players but they lack the aggression/determination required to keep turning up against a run of possession. Blaming Arthur or Fittler is just making excuses for them.

Yet those same players can do it against the Panthers and the Storm, the last two Premiers, the last three times that they have played each of them?

The same team that won game one and three in Origin, got smashed in game two. Did those players choose not to turn up in game 2 with the same aggression/determination? I suspect not. They just made crucial errors at crucial times, which lead the opposition to just dominate the game and possession and they were too fatigued to do anything about it. Had Matterson and RCG played in game 2 of Origin the result would still have been the same. Origin was about circumstances of the games rather than the calibre of the forwards each team possessed.

The same Broncos forward pack was bottom 4 last year, and we've beaten them easily the last five times we've played them. Did they suddenly gain all this class over us in one off season???

Forget origin. Jnr, RCG and Matterson are being paid more then every Brisbane forward bar Hass. So is this poor management by us by over paying them?
Who's fault is that? If they lack aggression and determination then they aren't worth more then 450k. We know bother are on over 600k.

Our issues is we don't ask questions. We arent evolving as the season goes on. Brad prefers safe players over exciting and dangerous. And he has built a grinding boring side.

Coaches matter. Why the Bulldogs attack has gone from terrible to exciting. Different perspectives and choice of players.

Next week BA has to put Blake to wing and Opacic to centre. Simmonsons times up.
Guth id move to centre and throw Russel in. See how he goes.
Bryce for JA and Brown for Makatoa.

Marata also needs to be put at 2nd row and Papali'i off the bench and playing in middle.
With Guth and Opacic in centres with Marata and Lane our defense will stiffen up.

Russel may flop. But if doesn't he may bring some suprise to opposition with little time to work hpout how to defend him.

I don’t remember either of those teams dominating possession against us the way Brisbane did in the first half yesterday.

We are poor at defending repeat sets and good at grinding teams down when we control the ball. Which situation were we in last night, the one that plays to our strengths or the one that plays to our weaknesses? We were outclassed.

We have to pay market rate. If we had ‘better management’ we might find more ways to pay players outside the cap like the ‘better run clubs’ do.

Jake Arthur? His dad? Why don’t you tell me. I don’t think anyone deserves blame. We just lack the advantages of the bigger clubs. But everyone is doing their best, and we are outperforming a lot of clubs. Like your mate Gould said, not everyone can come first. There’s a lot more teams below us than above us.

They are because they have other qualities. They just aren’t the perfect forward the way Haas is. Apart from him most middles lack something. Nathan Brown has aggression but lacks size, and this year he lacks speed and agility as well.

We dominated the early possession and put on one try. They then got one possession in good position and we just crumbled immediately. This lead to further domination of possession and we just couldn't be arsed.

It's clear from the results of the last 12 months, that unless we get our pants absolutely pulled down and play shit one week, or we're up against the Panthers or Storm the next week, we really just can't be arsed and rely on our opponent to just not turn up to get the win.

We defended repeat sets against the Panthers, and the Storm, and the Roosters. At least as much of the initial repeat seats against the Broncos last night.

We just coudn't be arsed. Maybe we don't like the rain.

I'm not blaming BA. As I said we have developed 1 x nrl player in 3yrs in our top 17. And we had to recruit a hack like Simmonson to fill a wing spot. Should never have to purchase a winger. Should be the easiest position to develop.

BA however has had 9yrs and in professional sports unlike other jobs you have a time frame for success. We have not gotten past week 2. Had we made a GF or even a GF qualifier then I would view things differently. But we haven't.

His times up now for better or worse.

The same as continually blaming the players is just making excuses for Coaches. It takes two to tango and there’s plop all over the dance floor.
