Putting the emotion aside, BA took over the club when we stunk like the proverbial bucket of prawns in the sun. The 9 years thing is spin. He has re-built the club and got us to a point where we all dreamed and never thought possible.

Now we are back where we belong, we want to go to the next level. Is he the guy to take us there ? Well of late it looks like the answer is no. So let's slow down and do this professionally and in a way that protects our brand and sponsors. If Uncle Nick wanted a new coach, he would not sack now and hope for the best. He would head hunt a coach and have him lined up before he pulls the trigger.

Why are you guys so vehemently against this process ?

Are you f**king serious. Who here dreamed week 2 of the finals was never possible over 9yrs?
I wanted a minor premiership and title. And believe that was possible
We've done f**k all in almost 10yrs. He come in 2014 when the squad was on the up. Similar to say Ciraldo and the Dogs.
Ricky come in right at a hot mess. So did SK.

When BA started we were close to a million dollar handicapped due to sticky’s overhead projector sackings that left us paying for players running around for other clubs.

he then had Hayne, our best player, walk out in an offseason with no time to replace him

then the salary cap escapade

whilst I do think we need a change and new voice leading the team, BA has had far from a smooth tenure through none of his own doing.

We're bigger than the Tigers and Knights. But you're mad if you think a big club could win three wooden spoons in seven years under three different coaches.
South Sydney did it in 03,04 and 06 (although Kitinas was a caretaker coach. Even Penrith came close by getting it in 2001, 2007 and 2012 (finished 15th). Sometimes you can have sufficient resources but you get poor results due to poor decision making.

I always dreamed of week 2 finishes during that dark wooden spoon era. I literally cry tears of happiness to see my impossible dream has come true.

LMAO he came into the club when Ricky walked out and we had the Sopranos running the joint.

I would let the season play out and get rid of him once our season is over if we haven't reached a certain point "Prelim Final".

He has the rest of this season to salvage his job.

We were unlucky last year against Penrith no doubt.

But its hard to make Prelim Finals if you dont finish Top 4 and we have bottled up that opportunity by losing 2 very winnable games this year already.

I also feel BA has squeezed as much as he can from this squad and if we are going to rebuild its time for a fresh set of eyes. It may rejuvenate some players if we get the next coach right.

It's in the 'stuff' category. It's topical and very exciting because just like our second week Finals loss in 2021 felt different so does this current situation with BA. The feel I get is that his days are numbered and the speculation is very interesting. I don't know about the others but I keep coming here to hopefully finally read that he has been officially sacked.
I never like to see anyone sacked as it's someone's livelihood. However when it becomes apparent that the situation is longer beneficial to all parties concerned then it's back me, sack me or mutually agree on a payout and off you go.
I think it's reached the stage where it's best the club and BA both move on.
He's done a fantastic job in the past, kudos to him for dragging the club out of the dark depths it was in. However I think he has reached his ceiling and time to go in a different direction.
We can talk why ad nauseam. We all know why

History repeats and I see plenty of similarities to 2006 although we haven’t announced a new coach for next year like we did back then.

I can’t see BA quitting like Brian Smith did but the feeling amongst the squad in 2006 may be similar to what we are experiencing now. Both squads came from relatively successful year and expectation was high. Both squads had their coach for close to a decade and it appeared that the lemon had been squeezed completely. BA is like a poor man’s Brian Smith although I suspect he is more stubborn and we may have to sack him because I can’t see him walking.

it’s important to note that despite being told he was not being extended Smithy quit as he was confident of getting a gig elsewhere. BA will have the comfort of a payout and I’m sure he will get a gig elsewhere.

Souths were a small club in 2006, and became a big club when Crowe and PHaC bought them and tipped millions in. They may go back to being also rans when Crowe sells next year. As for Penrith, they have only become a big club since they decided to spend money and bring Gould in. You'd think they will eventually tighten the belt as well, but this could be the new normal for them. I'd like us to be open to haemorrhaging some cash in the pursuit of big success but I'm sure the cash isn't there. Not yet anyway. But that's the board and CEO's responsibility, not the coach's.

Didn't smith sign with Newcastle in the preseason of 2006 a month after we signed Hagan from Newcastle.

I don't think it was him who dragged the club out of those depths. I think it was people much further up the food chain who are responsible for that.

This time last year or maybe it was a few game after this time last year - I had all but given up on the season, we looked cooked then. Then we beat Melbourne. I am hoping we can pull something like that again.

If we do end up being competitive, I would say our biggest issue would be beating sides like Cowboys or Brisbane who are playing amazing football at the moment.
