its not an even playing field in the NRL with TPAs
The TPAs are a symptom, rather than the cause of the problem. They arise largely b/c we have a bunch of clubs with massively different capacity to pay, and a salary cap that sits well below the capacity of the wealthier clubs to pay wages.
the demographic in a one team city like Brisbane gives them a huge advantage compared to all the Sydney teams fighting over the same money
teams like Newcastle in a broke arse city get left behind which is what is happening and I dont think that will change any time soon
What about if all clubs place a value on all NRL players except their own. The average becomes their 'price' but you can pay them whatever you like. You'd need a bit of leeway as their price would change over time but it'd still be fairly simple and transparent. And TPAs become a non issue.
BuggerUnfortunately it would be struck down as a restraint of trade. The planned internal draft back in the 90s would have made the cap (relatively) enforceable.
Is the dogs side that great or rooster to say they are getting huge advantages?
ok squads but not mind blowing.
Nothing like that superstar panfers squad eh gussyIs the dogs side that great or rooster to say they are getting huge advantages?

He finished his last ever game and played well. But because it effectively ended our season he was sent for surgery early. He probably would have finished the season if we'd let him. Then this year we asked him to retire to get off our cap. If not I'm sure he would have played the next three years. Obviously due to his age he wouldn't have played every game, but he never missed too many before coming to Parra. He can play injured because he's a tough, dopey merkin. But you would hope the goal would of been more then 17 games.......
They could just parachute them out. i.e. 'In four years time there will be no more TPAs. Go!'Stop making sense merkin.
Facts are that the NRL know it's the right thing to do, but I bet they have no idea how to transition. If they drew a line in the sand today, some clubs would be disadvantaged because new deals will not include TPAs yet some deals (Proctor 4 year deal for example) would remain on foot. Maybe they need to release all players and start from scratch for every club.
But not at the time they signed those contracts. Most of those guys came out of their NYC team. It was just perfect timing.I beg to differ with the Roosters - a few years back, they boasted:
Tuivasa-Sheck, Tupou, Ferguson, Kenny-Dowall, Pearce, Maloney, Warea-Hargreaves, Friend, Aubusson, Moa, Guerra, Cordner and Jennings in their 17 - all played Rep footy at some stage.
They where able to not lose any promising juniors and signed them all up early, none even wanted to test the market.Thats suss to me.Nothing like that superstar panfers squad eh gussy
Yawn!! Are you his manager?? Isn't Kelly,Seffa and Morgs enough???He finished his last ever game and played well. But because it effectively ended our season he was sent for surgery early. And since then the market has caught up to them and the salary cap has taken a bunch of those players. They ran second last this year.I hadn't considered that- good thought.
