Rumours and Stuff

I'm sure they already were.
Well the key to any team rebuilding is getting decent first graders for value first.

Buhrer seems a decent signing for them. I am not sure of their other signings.

Ponga may and probably will be a gun but seriously paying 600k a season for 5 years on 2 first grade games is a massive risk.

If anyone knows a desperate gambler, you can probably relate to what the knights are doing

Well they need to spend their salary cap, well most of it at least. Better to spend overs on potential that could turn it into unders rather than overs on established talent that is only going to be as good as they already are or worse decline

Potential is a funny word in sport.

So many sports men and women have potential. In a cricket sense, look at Mitch Marsh.

However i would rather take proven quality over potential every day. That is why i think Buhrer is a good signing.

why pay overs for a player who has reached his limit in regards to ability when you can pay a player with potential that may turn out to be overs or may turn out to be unders. Buhrer may be a great signing for them but he is unlikely to offer more in the future then he has in the past. Buhrer is probably a good fit for any team but he is not the type of player that will turn the Knights into a more competitive team

what would be the point in taking a risk and paying massive overs for a potential dud?
I thought that would be obvious in the fact the complete opposite may happen. The costs for the Knights to buy a player who is already an established super star would be so high they would have f*ck all left to build a team around him. Or you could pay overs for someone who has the potential to be that superstar but still leave them plenty of money to build a team around him. Of course as you said he may be a dud so they won't be any worse off then they are now if that occurs. What type of established player do you think the Knights could get for 600k?

Buhrer is a good signing, because he is a genuine first grader, and they need more of them. But you also know they're definitely paying overs for him. Or why would he have left Manly?

Ponga, on the other hand, probably isn't on much more than Buhrer, but by 2018 he could be worth twice as much.

600k is a lot of money. You could get plenty of established first graders on that money (actually probably even 2).

Lets say from a parra perspective, somebody like Semi (without the court case) is worth 500-600k. We allegedly signed Norman to a new deal worth 800k. Only 200k more than Ponga. I have no idea what Gutherson and French are on but would say a lot less than 600k.

My point is it is a massive gamble to sign anyone on a 5 year deal at 600k, let alone a 2 game NRL player.

I dont know where to start with this.

Do I know Knights are paying overs for Buhrer? I have no idea but guess they are paying market price. Lets say 300-400k max. Plenty of his type in the NRL i.e. solid first grader.

Why did Buhrer leave Manly? No idea but i believe they didnt rate him too highly.

Ponga is apparently on 600k over 5 years after 2 games.

If that is not a gamble, I am not alive. How many gamblers win?

Why am i even arguing with you?

His point was do you think the Knights could get them for $600k? They would be paying well over $400k for Buhrer.

Of course it's a lot of money for a rookie. But got to remember they are looking for a spine player. You could have several quality players but without any decent spine players you are stuffed.

I think Brown is doing a decent job, they have blooded a lot of juniors and in 2-3 years they will probably get some value in them which will offset the big money for Ponga.

Not sure if they are paying overs for Burher but he could have left manly not because of the big dollars but because of an extended contract (and cheaper lifestyle)

It's been rumoured ( think Nathan Ryan from NRL fox) that Gower is being shopped around.

Probably more of BA just letting him know he can leave if gets a better offer as he may struggle to play NRL this year.

I reckon Gower is the type of player you want in your squad come finals time. Experienced, cool headed and gives his all, however I agree he will spend a lot of time at Wenty this year I think.

He would have to feel hard done by if he is being shopped around. He came to us with BA in 2014 when we needed some players like him to improve the overall attitude of the squad and it would suck to not be wanted for the last year of your contract because the club was able to build a better squad after the efforts you put in. Guess that's life for a professional sportsperson.
