The side I think that will get picked is:

8. Mannah
9. De gois
10. TBA
11. Moeroa
12. Manu
13. Scott

14. Pritchard
15. Pritchard
16. Edwards
17. TBA

With two spots available between vave, peni, matagi and brown.

I think brown will got a spot and peni may get the other.

If I was picking, I would probably go with the above side with Vave starting (maybe Frankie starting and vave on the bench ) and Brown on the bench.

Brown did not come to Parra to play for Wenty. He'll start

btw this is my forward pack that I'd currently be going with

8. Tim MANNAH
9. Isaac DE GOIS
10. Frank PRITCHARD
11. Manu MA'U
12. Tepai MOEROA
13. Beau SCOTT
14. Kaysa PRITCHARD
15. Peni TEREPO
16. Nathan BROWN
17. Kenny EDWARDS

Although this line-up has changed many times for me, up to only 10 minutes ago I put Kaysa back in.

FWIW, this is who I'd be running in the Wenty forward pack

8. Daniel ALVARO
9. Kaysa PRITCHARD
10. Siosaia VAVE
11. Kelepi TANGINOA
12. Cody NELSON
13. Suaia MATAGI
14. James HASSON
15. Alex TWAL
16. David GOWER
17. Jack MORRIS

He might not start, but he'll be a certainty in the top 17, just like Edwards.

He'll start IMO. Vave is better off the bench, Matagi Alvaro and Terepo are the props who will probably miss out/nab the last bench spot. Pritchard isn't a prop, nor is he a walk up start, nor is he a starter in this pack at full strength. Brown has done his time on the bench, he's got aggro and can play good minutes. He should start

I don't agree with some of your line-up but thank you very much for putting Moeroa in the #11, I know jersey number means sfa but when putting a list online the 11 and 12 is reserved for edge forwards. I see most people putting Scott back out on the edge with Tep back in the middle (Those that do then complain that Tep should be playing out wide).

Cool, curious what changes you would make to that pack (it's good to others opinions)?

Gee we have so many options, the depth is great.

Beat me to it, yeah I like that pack. Not much difference to what I think will get picked (as opposed to who I would pick), except who starts.

I think a spot is there for peni to lose (rather then win) and Frankie will definitely be in the side.

Would Vave have knocked back an offer from Manly to come to Parra for anything less than Top 17 coin?

Why would we pay a bloke Top 17 coin to play at Wenty?

Because we had plenty of cap space and it needs to be spent on someone. The brains trust obviously thought it was worth paying a few extra players top 17 money to boost depth.

Who does he start over in that list?

I don't know what Vave is being paid. I don't think it'd be too much probably in the 15-20 range. From what I have heard, seen in pre-season, and from watching previous seasons this is the team that I believe to be our best 17 in Round 1.

True, loads of depth.

Just in terms of relevance for likely selection amidst the competition for our bench spots, here is the amount of Eels games played in 2016 for forwards/bench options that are still at the club in 2017.

Games - Player - (Started/Bench, if any bench games)
24 Edwards (10/14)
23 Terepo (8/15)
22 Moeroa
22 M'au
22 De Gois (18/4)
20 Scott
17 Alvaro (10/7)
16 Pritchard (0/16)
16 Gower (1/15)
14 Mannah
9 O'Brien (1/8)
9 Robson
2 Nelson (0/2)

That suggests to me that in a full strength 2017 pack:
  • Kenny Edwards will be preferred for a (bench) spot
  • Peni Terepo will be preferred for a (bench) spot
  • M'au, Moeroa, De Gois and Scott are certain starters
  • Alvaro, Mannah, Gower and O'Brien will be competing against the new buys (Brown, Vave, FPricthard, Matagi) for the three remaining middle forward spots
  • If Mannah is not in our top three middle forwards, he'll displace Peni for that bench spot
  • We'll carry one of Kaysa or Robson on the bench most weeks, to cover for De Gois and Gutherson, unless they think of picking an extra middle forward and using Kenny to cover both?
My prediction for full strength/named side:

8. Alvaro
9. De Gois
10. Brown
11. Moeroa
12. Ma'u
13. Scott
14. Edwards
15. Terepo
16. Mannah
17. Vave
18. FPritchard
19. KPritchard
20. Robson
(three to be omitted each week)
And still with Matagi, Gower and O'Brien and others as back-ups.

I think using your observations of games played in 2016 is a little too simplistic.

The players on the list from 2016 only competed with 1 1/2 (Wicks and Paulo for 1/2 the season) other players not on that list. Whereas those 1 1/2 have now been replaced by 4 new forwards. An addition of 2 1/2 more forwards.

How many games did Brown, Matagi, Vave and Pritchard play for their respective clubs in 2016?

Some bloke on TCT FB page reckons Hunt is a done deal to be confirmed this week for 2018 and the club is trying to get him for 2017.

Mind you, first day he's been on the page so might just be looking to make some noise

I can clearly see how you deducted that mannah will not start from the fact that every game he played last season he started ... how did anyone miss that? So obvious
