Why are thin people unable to be bagged because they can't help it, but overweight people are overweight because of lifestyle? To me, that's hypocrisy.

I don't think anybody should be judged - regardless of race, sex, size, creed, intelligence, lifestyle choices...unless they are partaking in illegal activities.

I have to disagree to an extent. Being a bit overweight isn't an issue, I've certainly stacked on a few kg since my mental illness breakdown at the start of the year. But I absolutely despise the idea of promoting obesity as beautiful. If those people are happy with themselves, good on them, it's their life. But this whole big is beautiful thing is hugely dangerous.

I'm not saying we need to promote "big is beautiful"; I'm saying that this mentality that fat people are fat because of their lifestyle choices is misguided.

I agree that we need to encourage people to look after themselves.

But saying that, "Hey, I'm fat, and it's my fault because I eat like a pig!" is simplistic and wrong.

I've been overweight my entire life.

In the last 24 months, I've lost 10kg - I have been playing soccer and going to the gym, eating well and taking things very seriously, and my doctor says I'm still overweight.

I've not lost any further weight in several months.

I have attempted to increase my activity (and its intensity) in order to try to Kickstart further losses, but it's not working.

Going by hindy111's post, I deserve to be fat because of lifestyle choices; however, I have fought extremely hard my entire life to lose weight, and nothing is working, and I find this concept that "You're fat because you don't look after yourself" wrong and dangerous.

It's simply not as easy as saying that one is fat because they eat poorly/don't exercise/are lazy.

I was asking why thin people, who are often think due to genetics, get a free pass from criticism, but an overweight person gets chastised for being fat.

The fact that it is false (which is questionable in itself) doesn't make it racist, though. It's a reasonable assertion because to a large extent it's true.

Thaiday is a Torres Strait Islander, so he comes from different genetic stock (for example). Of course there are almost always going to be exceptions. But in all honesty you've done exactly the same thing by saying that Aboriginal people from tropical areas tend to be more stocky. That statement is absolutely no different to the original statement.

At the end of the day, both statements are true to an extent and false to an extent. But the significant genetic trend in Aboriginal people is a lithe, strong, very fit body type befitting a nomadic lifestyle. Inglis actually pretty much conforms to this shape too, he just has access to a gym and supplements. Sandow is an outlier in almost any society.

That's changing, mostly thanks to Western interference, an it's true that in areas where that nomadic lifestyle wasn't as prevalent the genetic norm is slightly different, but on the whole it's neither a racist comment nor a stereotype. It's simply genetics. Much like my red Celtic beard...lol

Yeah, we probably got sidetracked from the actual casual racism.

This started when Gronk asserted that Aboriginal players don't usually make it in the forwards.
HappyMcEel mentioned some prominent Aboriginal forwards and Gronk also mentioned Beetson.

Hindy111s then waded in with his crap about mixed race implying that those guys aren't 'proper' Aboriginals and continued to dig himself into a casual racism hole.

Phartman called him out on it and Ram jumped on him and the poisonous PC shit.

Commenting on genetic differences in and of themselves isn't racism but the fact that there are numerous examples of the original race-based assertion not being accurate means that it's not really something that can be used to include or exclude players.

Why can't we say that such and such player won't make it in the forwards because he's lithe and athletic, not because he's Aboriginal?

I work with Aboriginal young people of all shapes and sizes and the number of people who still discount them or exclude them from particular roles or positions, in all walks of life, because of their race, and based on assumed stereotypes of that race, is so disheartening. They notice it.

Kiera Knightly, the Veronicas and probably plenty of other thin people, predominantly women, regularly get told to eat something.

You tried switching activities or what might see counter intuitive but decrease intensity but increase duration (fat needs time to breakdown, not necessarily intensity)

Yeah but I'm making a different point to Hindy. And it isn't about people like you (FTR you don't look massively overweight to me dude...) who are still looking out for their health.

I think it's a chicken or the egg issue in a way. So many people blame their genetics and never do anything about their weight. So many people blame genetics while shoving fast food in their faces every meal. So many people blame genetics when the entire extent of their exercise is walking from the couch to the fridge. I know a bloke who blames genetics when both his parents combined wouldn't get within 10kg of his weight.

I'm not advocating shaming or abusing obese people. I'm only advocating exposing excuses and bullshit as just that. Like I said, if someone is happy with their weight being 150kg, that's none of my business. I feel like it becomes other peoples' business when they start affecting the choices of others in a manner that is detrimental to their health. There is nothing wrong with being a happy bigger person. But there is also nothing wrong with people believing that to be unhealthy. That's my problem with the whole thing. It's nothing to do with image. It's to do with the fact that many of the biggest killers in Australia and much of the western world are in some way related to diet and weight.

I once worked with a girl who was larger, and made every excuse under the sun despite the fact that she ate KFC from next door at least 3 times a week and lived on takeaway. She once had a crack at me because I posted a progress selfie (hah! vanity) on FB of what I'd achieved at the gym post injury. She believed that "big is more natural and beautiful!" and that by posting a picture of myself having worked out and improved myself I was "shaming bigger people". That's the kind of attitude I'm talking about. I'm sure you've seen the ones that float around FB...."real men like curves, only dogs go for bones" or whatever with an image of a genuinely obese woman. That attitude is what I think of as dangerous, because it encourages overweight people to continue an unhealthy lifestyle. There's no point blaming anyone for being too fat or too thin, there are many factors that influence that. All I'm saying is that there is nothing wrong with criticising unhealthy lifestyles.

We're happy to criticise a drug addict and look down on them socially for destroying their health and their body and ultimately their life. What's the real difference between a drug addict and a bloke who eats fast food three times a day, drinks nothing but Mother and Coke, weighs 130kg and does zero exercise. Heck, the latter can change things much easier....

That's all true.

I agree with it.

I think society needs to show some more compassion towards people.

What I was pointing at is people get knicknames, with friends or in workplace. - Shorty or sticks/noodles based on physical appearance.
But if gave someone the name lard arse it would be seen as cruel..... Sure there are overweight people who cant help it. But i'd say a higher percentage of overweight people eat to much and barely exercise. While someone with a big nose or short can not actually change it. Same as bald men. Or people with glasses.
