Parramatta have no experienced playmaker backup after departure of Jake Arthur

The departure of young halfback Jake Arthur leaves a gap in Parramatta’s playmaking stocks, see how the coach plans to fill it should disaster strike.

Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson could be a surprise option in the halves for the Eels following the departure of playmaker Jake Arthur to Manly.

Eels coach Brad Arthur revealed his back-up plan should regular halves Mitchell Moses and Dylan Brown be unavailable for games this season.

“We’ve got a few options. I will worry about that if we get to it but we might be able to shuffle ‘Gutho’ (Clint Gutherson) around. Daejarn Asi is playing a bit of fullback in (NSW) Cup,” Arthur said. “But I haven’t thought about it,” Brad said.

“But I haven’t thought about it “

Another thing that isn’t the coaches job apparently………..

Asi has not impressed at fullback at all and him now going to 5/8 in cup doesn't fill me with much optimism...
Asi has played some decent games in 1st grade at 5/8. He has shown he is a capable fill in.
Hardly anyone is standing out in reggies but those that have been called up to NRL have actually stepped up on the whole. Hopefully we wouldn't need him for more then a week or 2 as losing a nrl half is never ideal.

I mean him going to 5/8 in cup and possibly filling in at Fullback in the NRL. Seems a strange move he needs practise at Fullback.

Not really mate.
My post that you replied to was regarding the fact that to my knowledge, the asking price for Stefano was way in excess of what he had shown/proven at that stage of his career.

His selection in the Emerging Blues squad in no way justified what they were after at that time.

If you see Emerging Blues squad selection as worth more contract dollars (and I am not saying whether it should or shouldn't be), I would be interested to know what dollar value you would put on it. That's a genuine question because from what I was told at the time, the ask was about $100k more than minimum wage and was put to the club in a fairly aggressive manner.
Bloody hell. Did we fight to keep Mannah when he wanted to go to The Tigpies only to lose Stefano? Ffs Sharpie!😁

He is a 5/8. Now Jake is gone he will stay in the halves unless we bring someone like Sanders thru.
I know he is a 5/8 and played well there at the Warriors.

BA said they will most likely move Gutho to 5/8 and Asi to fullback if their is an injury in the halves.

Playing him at cup at 5/8 when he will likely have to play fullback doesn't help him develop the skills to play Fullback in the NRL.

BTW Hindsight is a f**king wonderful thing...

Lets look at our club this year I think with the Joe O signing it has improved our forwards so much its also most the best in the competition with Greig improving as well.
Hindsight has nothing to do with it. They are assuming that our middles make the most runs per game in the NRL when the fact is they don’t. There’s also a bunch of middles who make more runs than our busiest middle forward Matterson, though last year he made the most carries of all forwards in the NRL. But even last year there were a few who made more runs than Paulo and RCG, including Yeo and JFH. How exactly are our guys ‘worn out’ and none of the others are? If they were worn out by running the ball all year we would never have made the grand final.

Learn to read and interpret what I post troll.

He could have been our Leniu on the bench all season last year when we made the GF and maybe our boppers wouldn't have been soft marshmallows by the time they got to the big dance. Quality depth coming from beneath gives options.

We have/had none. No options and therefore we burn all our forwards to zero by the end of a long season. Look at what Cronk thinks that the Panthers should be doing this year if they are to do a thriple.

The need to not play hard at 100% all year because they don't have the depth of previous years. The need to be playing a little under their best and just keep ticking away enough to finish in the top 4. Yet their depth is still better then ours because they are producing juniors all the time.

Not space science jar head. Stop marching to your masters beat and think a little. Maybe watch the team play without that braille stats book in front of you. Who know you might enjoy the evolution and understanding of the game it gives you.
Sure. Since you’re the tactics and recovery master, what is the right amount of runs we should be expecting from our middles? How many is too many, and how many do you think were made by the premiers’ middle forwards last year?

His playmaking stats have been very good in recent weeks. Most of our line breaks have been created by him. He might lack the work rate for fullback, but then in the halves you still need to move off the ball, plus you now have all that tackling workload.

Oh sh*t, yeah. I need sleep. I forgot him totally. But then again we need to see what he can back up the next month first before we count that chook. But he looks to have the goods going forward. Lets hope Potato Head knows how to use him properly.
He will be elite in a year or two
