Because if you didn't release him mid season, the the deal is off. Pretty simple really. You then miss out on salary cap relief for the years you need it. Both parties win this way.

I know you’re trying to use it as a point against Hodgson, but Hands is pretty guilty of it too. As is Junior and Lane and Hopgood and Penisini.

He can play anywhere in the backline and once gets into a decent system would have gone to another level.

Extending Averillo for 400-500k would have been far better then overpaying for Crichton on 850k.

Not sure you get 350k more value out of Crichton...

Depends on price but really with Simonsson finding his spot, Averillo would be stuck on a wing, and I don’t think that’s his ideal position.

For how many games? He may prove me wrong but I reckon he’s just one of those players who wants to play fullback simply for the pay increase, I don’t think he’ll actually make a good fullback.

It is a lot of money to pay for someone who has never played fullback consistently at NRL level.
