$650 for 2024, 2025.

All of this is completely logical and for the most part true..........

So why midseason, when Parra needed it?

I cannot claim to know the minds of the Tigers brass

However,
It may have been a "best case offer" (ie take it or leave it - we can find someone else if we need to)
Or
It may be like the Eels releasing JArthur to a rival (that they play against in 2 weeks). Either it is nepotism, or perhaps the staff had their eyes elsewhere.

You would know the Tigers workings better than me, but I doubt if it was a full freight deal they would have held him back for the game against the Cows, and then postured about not letting him go at all. That (to my way of thinking) was trying to squeeze a few more $$ out of the deal.
We both heard different things from our own sides of the fence, someone is trying to spin, or both are and the truth is halfway?

lol superfan Pou, happily will shit can one of our own just to win an argument on the Internet. For a rookie dummy half I think Hands has done quite well, he will only continue to improve. Instead Pou will stick by old man Hodgson right to the bitter end.

Just like the band on the Titanic, keep playing Poups keep playing!!
Nah I like Brendan Hands as well. I only point out his mistakes because you merkins are acting like Hodgson is the only one who makes them. I don’t give a f**k about the odd missed tackle or lazy effort. No player is perfect.

What I think is feasible is that the Tigers have paid him his entire 2023 contract this year to compensate him for loss of 2024 and 2025 earnings. Meanwhile our contract with the player includes a significant component this year, as well as reasonable amounts for ‘24-‘25.

This would mean he’s not on the Tigers’ books in future years, allowing one to think we are “paying full freight”, when the reality is that the Tigers are paying him in full this year to not play for them. Since we are also paying him this year, he is essentially subsidised in future years.
I think another feasibility is we’ve topped up his 2023 salary above his original contract amount with Wigers, so that his 2024/25 amounts are less for us

Carty will be an interesting one. He has a young family and would not have been on a huge amount of money with Parra since coming across. I hope we retain him for the right price, however I can see him taking a big payday elsewhere (also taking into consideration his age)
I reckon we will squeeze him for as little as we can get.

Ba will say we have davey, doorey who can play in that position already with lane the other side and matto an alternative too as well as toni.

So we definitely won't pay carty overs

I'd rather keep emu tbh

Are you sure this is how it works? I’m of the belief that players can be paid out 1c under the top 30 minimum wage and not be on the books.

In essence, Ofahengaue could be paid $119,99.99 for 2024 and 2025 and not affect their cap, hence ‘full freight’.
I remember this being a thing back when there was a second tier squad. I suppose there’s no good reason it wouldn’t still be an option.

Isn’t this the same thing? If he’s getting more this year (from both clubs) than he would’ve if he’d stayed at Wests then he isn’t necessarily out of pocket if he takes a pay cut in the next two years.

My knowledge of the matter is that clubs can’t just pay out players to suit their agenda.

Otherwise, what’s stopping the rich clubs from pulling further ahead? It could be an unfair advantage, and for example, the retention of Moses. We could dangle the carrot of having him on good coin through until 2028 without any intention of having him on the books for the last year. The club simply pays him out for the last year and we have got value for the previous four years.

Errors per minute are very different between the two as well. The difference in per-run line breaks and tackle breaks also shows the difference between an experienced player picking his moments and a rookie padding his stats. Obviously only one of them has a kicking game.
Hands can kick but he would not have as free a hand as a Rookie.

So Hodgson gets another year, and we haven’t extended Bryce or emu yet?

we already pissed off a spine player that can’t run, now we extend another. Ffs
