Think it’s worth stating that the coach has done well given he’s never had a side that was considered a GF winning roster, so the recruitment side needs to step up. The junior reps have made good strides in identification, need to do that higher up.
If you average out the last 5 years (I was being kind to BA not including 2018) we’ve come in around 5th or 6th. I’d say that’s about average for the quality of our roster over that time. Average is fine for the aspirations of a shit club like the tigers, but we should be aiming higher. Don’t forget that BA is an integral part of that recruitment responsibility.

Was that their peptides year? Or a year or two later in the aftermath of the effects...
I think the peptides was around at Cronulla during the 2011/2012 seasons.

Asada came out in february 2013 and the investigation took 2 years to solve.

2014 - Sharks players copped 3 match bans.

Won the comp in 2016.

Plus the Salary Cap breach that was convenient for Cronulla to be under the year they won it but over in the years preceding and after 2016. While in the same year we got rubbed out of the comp.

Wasn't Brad coach of this club when we cheated the cap... To win a spoon?
Unsure your point. Flanagan may have been "astute" but he was in charge whilst there was doping going on plus had the benefit of years and years of a stacked roster.

Brad Arthur got delivered a paper bag full of fresh turds that was set on fire and left on his door step.

How many of these outside backs that we have missed out on have stayed or moved to clubs that have done better in terms of table position than us in the last 3 seasons?

This is a genuine question. As the majority of names floated around here and in the media aren't players who have moved to top tier clubs.

This tells me we are offering less $$$ and/or shorter term contracts.

The problem we have is that we are not budgeting enough for the outside backs. However if we are to adjust this it just means lesser $$$ for other positions. Maybe outlaying 1.6m+ on our starting props is too much?

Fact is your always going to pay a surplus for players who are in demand. Continual and gradual increased investment in our juniors is our best bet. However this takes time.

How much more time do we need. It never stops. The excuses that is.

Aren't people just sick of defending the indefensible anymore?

I just don't get it. Would you keep giving your misses this many excuses if she kept telling you she would where undies when going night clubbing with her b*tch squad but next week just kept being put off to every other week?

I know I would have canned her arse first week in. Believe it when you see it.

Josh Addo-Carr could make a shock immediate switch from the Bulldogs to arch-rivals Parramatta if the star winger is released from Canterbury.

It comes after the Bulldogs landed Warriors forward Josh Curran for next season.

This masthead can reveal Parramatta have expressed interest in signing Addo-Carr immediately if the Bulldogs agree to release him from his contract.

Parramatta would have to release a player to make the deal happen.

Addo-Carr is on the outer with some Bulldogs officials, despite a recent clear-the-air meeting with football general manager Phil Gould. The premiership-winning winger is contracted until the end of 2025, but could depart sooner if the club benefits from the move.
The Eels have highlighted a need for more speed out wide, while the Bulldogs are short of forwards after losing Tevita Pangai jnr, Luke Thompson, Corey Waddell, Franklin Pele and Fa’amanu Brown. The Bulldogs haven’t ruled out a player exchange.

Despite it being the off-season, Addo-Carr has been in the spotlight. The former Wests Tigers and Storm flanker was hit with a two-game ban, served during Australia’s opening Pacific Nations Tests – as well as a $5000 fine ($3000 suspended) for his role in a brawl during the Koori Knockout.

There was further controversy a week later when Addo-Carr uploaded an Instagram post linking the conflict in the Middle East with Indigenous land rights. After posting a photo of the Palestinian and Aboriginal flags with the caption “One struggle, one fight”, he promptly deleted it and expressed remorse for what he initially thought was a “message of respect for all people”.

This masthead revealed he was on the nose with some Canterbury powerbrokers before a meeting with Gould a fortnight ago. Gould said he wanted Addo-Carr to show more leadership as a senior player, but assured him he was wanted at Belmore.
That may change following news Parramatta would be interested should the 28-year-old become a free agent. The blue and golds’ three-quarter stocks were stretched in 2023 after Waqa Blake was relegated to reserve grade and a raft of injuries limited the options for coach Brad Arthur.
The Eels signed Manly centre Morgan Harper on a one-year deal to add depth, but Addo-Carr is viewed as the X-factor the club needs after missing out on the play-offs in 2023. Parramatta’s only other signing to date is Manly forward Kelma Tuilagi.
Addo-Carr has scored 27 tries in 38 games for a Canterbury outfit that has struggled for points in his two seasons in the blue and white. His popularity at Belmore is underscored by the sale of more than $1 million of his personal merchandise brand, which resulted in him being crowned the NRL’s entrepreneur of the year award.
The Eels and Bulldogs were contacted for comment.

The Bulldogs’ continue to be aggressive in the transfer market, with Warriors forward Curran set to make an immediate switch to Belmore.
Curran, who had been given permission to test the market despite having another year left on his Warriors deal, has agreed to terms with Canterbury.
He also spoke to the Dragons but told the club on Tuesday night that he wouldn't be taking up their offer.
He will join Stephen Crichton, Blake Taaffe, Bronson Xerri and Jaeman Salmon as confirmed signings for Cameron Ciraldo’s side next year as they try to climb out of the NRL’s bottom four.

Curran had also been weighing up interest from the Dragons, but has told Canterbury officials he will return to Sydney with the Bulldogs.
It comes as the Bulldogs announced a two-year deal for winger Blake Wilson until the end of 2025.

You do realise that BA is one voice on a recruitment committee of 5, and wouldn’t suggest the other 4 are the most dynamic people in the room. I understand that BA has identified several elite type backs he wanted but the committee couldn’t get them over the line.

All coaches want better players, not sure that as a club we have worked hard enough to improve the roster. After the review of the juniors, things have improved considerably, the NRL and NRLW recruitment in comparison has been relatively sub standard. That’s my real point, has the club looked at what they do for the senior sides critically enough to actually understand their shortcomings.

The SMH article that the Eels would have to release a player is strange, given we only have 27 currently on the full time roster, then again nothing surprises me particularly with the media or it seems the club.

He’s an absolute potato but our outside back stocks are so bad I’d welcome him with open arms. He wouldn’t be a leader in our club so I think that would help him focus on enjoying himself and playing footy.
Let him go Gus!!

Yep, I realise that mate. Just making the point that he doesn’t get off Scott-free in that department.

Regardless, I think if we could nab Addo-car then that’s one issue solved (and hopefully doesn’t bring others with him).

Its a risk we have to take. Especially if it means pissing off Matto to Belmore as what the Tele are suggesting with a player swap.

I think that's who the Dogs have there eye on and it would be a done deal.

Get on it MON.

When I read it, i was thinking not for numbers for $$$'s sake

If we get rid of all the junk signings, it would probably be enough

Why would they release him? I wouldn’t if I were at the Dogs. Who would the Dogs be wanting in exchange ? Won’t happen imo
I think the Fox is finding out how ruthless Gus can be when he realises you ain't playing up to your paycheck.

I recall Gus punted Luke Lewis, Michael Jennings, Matt Moylan, early from there big money contracts at Penrith.

Gus wants him gone it was obivous 3 weeks ago when his ghostwriter wrote Danny Weilder planted the seed the Dogs werent happy with him
