Rumours and Stuff

I'd say it's easier to find another half who can kick and create than to find a hooker who can do that stuff. Hookers already have such high defensive requirements that piling kicking and playmaking on top drives their price up massively. Once you get to that point (paying so much for a dummy half) that you need to make him the focus of your attack just to get your money's worth.

IF Fogarty has the wherewithal to become a regular first grader, he might be able to fill that role. Seems to possess all the skills.

In my opinion we blew it by not recruiting Hastings. He would of been cheap and he ticks all the boxes from fullback, 5/8th, half and dummy half, can tackle and has all the skills. From all accounts it looks like he has woken up to himself and is out to prove that he is a team player.

But since we blew that option I would go for a young up and comer that has great potential for dummy half and that would be like someone like that kid from the Sharks. Just can't remember his name right now.

Short of that, I would try to turn Fogarty into a tackling machine to give him a shot at dummy half.

Oh by the way Hindy111, you were the first on here, I think mid season last year, to recommend Suaia Matagi, and I agreed with you. Well spotted young man. Big tick for Hindy111, and an extra big zero for the doubters.

Who were the doubters re Matagi? I thought we'd have done well to have a go when he first decided to leave the Warriors mid-season.

What skills??? He showed absolutely nothng to suggest he is anywhere near first grade. His defence is poor as well BA will go with Robbo before him every time.

Problem is that any decent half becomes available he will end up costing nearly as much as Hunt unless we invest in potential or target a second tier half. For instance if we opted for someone like Mitchell Moses he would cost at least as what Norman is reportedly on now. ($800K). Maybe even more. Norman in my opinion is a superior player.

However if we for argument sake went for someone like Tyrone Roberts (who is a second tier half) he would cost about $500K. Moses is more hyped but I reckon Roberts could do a similar job and provide goal kicking skill which I think will be our achilles heel this year. Moses is also a noted goal kicker and is a specialist right side half with a decent long range kicking game.

I'd rather just take Roberts if Gutherson didn't work out and use the extra money to top up Tepai's contract.

We also have Dargan, yeah he probably won't make it, but BA obviously see something in him to have him train with the NRL squad during the offseason.

By mid season, we probably will also have a good idea if he is an option in 2018.

With a strong back row / centres combo (helps in defence), Norman in the halves and some good options in Gutherson / French we might be able to "carry" a rookie half in our to
13 for a year.

I was wildly indifferent. Does that make me less bad?

Agree ram. Ba is a great coach but i feel he trusts his guys to much. Hastings would of bee a great gamble. Manyl have added hasting, Green, Cullen while we have added Fogarty to the halves.
Gutherson potentially goes well however i feel he would be a great match for a thurston or cronk style rather then Normans.
