For those who have been paying closer attention than I regarding our signings and retentions over the last few months, are the likes of Norman, Moses, French, Moeroa, Gutherson et al all slated to come off contract at the end of 2019? I wouldn't want the club to find itself in a similar position to the Tigers in a couple of years with a whole bunch of talent coming off contract at the same time....

Given that your average contract is less than 3 years, you are always going to have a significant proportion of players off contract at the end of year X (i.e. initally at least one-third of your players). But, obviously you try to extend some of those players more than a year before their current deal expires.

Wests Tigers would like to clarify media reports this afternoon around the contract status of Mitchell Moses.

Due to the current uncertainty surrounding the salary cap for 2018 and beyond the Club has decided to prioritise the re-signings of Captain Aaron Woods and James Tedesco.

As a result the current contract offer that was with Moses’ management was taken off the table by Wests Tigers.

After being made aware of this decision Moses’ management requested an immediate release from the remainder of Moses’ current contract; this request was denied by Wests Tigers.

This decision was purely made due to the current uncertainty surrounding the salary cap, with the Club not willing to put itself in a risky position for 2018 and beyond.

The Club informed Moses’ management that it would be willing to revisit negotiations once the 2018 salary cap figure was confirmed.

As for being a merkin, Manu & Beau will sort him out.

If we have only paid $700k for him then that's a bargain cos a decent Chook Herron goal kicking winger would cost you $250k. So for mine we're getting Moses at a bargain basement price. Good runner of the ball. Getting better at D. Has good spatial awareness and has a good football brain.
