Agree, personnel changes badly needed, bring in Makatoa and/or Hollis on bench and an injection of speed. Peninisi for Opacic, Niudruki/Russell for Sivo and Fergo back. Don't hold your breath waiting for BA to be proactive tho.

New staff need a voice. They need to be listened too. Has our D changed a great deal from Gentle to Kidwell? I reckon the buck stops with the Head Coach and he dictates the process. Its not as if anyone is knocking on Kidwells or Murphys doors so why rock the boat only to apply for Newstart? Our HOF should have at least an equal voice where team is concerned. Lets face it. He will also be judged by the teams success or lack there of.

Our glaring defensive issues have been the same for quite a few years now. Clearly its not working..so is it the players or is the coaching? I think its the coaching.
There are a few teams who play compressed in the middle and have the wingers and/or centres race up and cut off the distribution. Souths did this to us the other night, storm does it and a few others too.
Either they are being coached incorrectly on how to read the play and stop it or the instructions are dog shit. The risk of racing up too quick is having a kick put in behind the line. The rest of the defensive line needs to scramble across and do their job. Although Tom set up Garrick twice last night he still had work to do. Not like us with the opposition scoring without a finger laid on the player.
If its the players we need to get active in the player market. I see several teams have already signed players next year to bolster their squads...us nothing. Understand some of our current crop are fair game come Nov 1. The next 4 weeks will determine what the value of these players really is. Not one due for a contract extension is worth the same money or an upgrade...
We are lacking speed...Sivo is a brute but lazy and gets dominated when hitting the ball up. Haze has done alright but not convinced he's the answer. I like the look of Penisini and Russell.
Jason Saab was horrible last year but he has gone to another level and he's express.
Love to see us sign 3 or 4 fringe first graders who can't get a look in at their current club because i dont think 2 through to 5 instills us with confidence to do the job.
Waqa could stay left centre as he has been one of our best since moving there. However could easily be on one wing. Penisini should be the right centre.
Opacic was going much better at left centre. He plays there or no where.
Wouldn't be opposed to Dylan swapping with Guth next year.
Need 2 other key signings. 1 hard hole running back rower and a front rower.
I think Greig has great potential.
Adding 5 or 6 players in those positions will put pressure on the incumbents.

I reckon we bring Jorge Taufua in next year. Defensively strong and good carries out of our end. We're really struggling with our edge defence and bringing in a defensive specialist like Taufua should fix that.

Look I agree with 85% of what you say but also believe at times you just have to make a change. Take a gamble. For better or worse. It's been 8yrs.
I had $100 on us Friday night. I was confident we'd fire up and play like it was a semi final. We had no energy at all. It was a worry.

I had a couple hundred on Souths, as you know, and the reason is that they are that much better than us. I tipped them as premiers in the pre-season (though now I think it'll be Melbourne again) due to their roster. The faster ruck really suits their players and it doesn't suit ours. And our players know it. Under the 2019 rules we might've got them but the game has moved on.

However I agree it could be time for a change of coach. It's time for a roster change and changing the coach at the same time probably wouldn't hurt. We obviously need more speed out wide and I think we need more toilers in the middle. We might need to let some quality players go to bring them in. I'm talking Paulo, Matterson and maybe even Gutherson. All good players, but not really worth the money they are likely to demand. Not to us anyway.
