Souths’ was barely better than ours. I agree the Roosters were as good as the Cowboys. Them and the Storm had better teams than us as well.
I thought you said the Storm side was filled with reserve graders? Regardless it just demonstrates my point about how points differential isn’t a slam dunk when it comes to assessing a teams quality.

Neither could Melbourne for Munster.
Location is very important, especially for a player with a young family. This is a major drawcard for the Storm, while it isn’t for Sydney clubs. A Sydney-based player can switch to any of eight other clubs and his wife’s life won’t change. Maybe some different faces on game day, plus the extra $100k (or more) her husband is bringing home.

This is not counting the TPAs Melbourne have proved in the past they’re willing to use to keep players.

Solid first graders maybe, rather than stars in all 17 positions.

It doesn’t demonstrate it at all. An upset result is an outlier. It proves nothing.

I don't agree.

Cowboys won 17, we won 16; their for and against was +272, ours was +119.

We defeated them with some huge stroke of luck.

Regardless - aside from our performance against the Raiders, we were exposed inthe Finals, imo - which shows me we overachieved.

We played the panthers twice after they had played something like 2 games in 30 days, they were fresh and ready to go. I thought the cowboys had more luck in our SF, Taumalolo should've been sent off for a shoulder to the head, their 2nd try the ref didn't call interference in the ruck. And I'm sure if you go through the game there would be many instances of luck for both teams.

Munsters only had his first child last year so I doubt moving his family to QLD would have been a huge issue.

.For me, the reason why the Cowboys were better is because they were at their peak for longer - we would play out of our skins one week, then bludge for the next 3 weeks; the Cowboys were generally very consistent, week to week.

And yet we never lost 2 games in a row. We didn't have a long winning stretch, our longest win streak was 3 in a row. But to say we bludged for 3/4 weeks I'd say is false. We also only won 1 less game than the cowboys, how much better could they have been?

So how do you rate the Roosters on par with the Cowboys despite their lower points differential? Using that logic the Sharks were a superior side to the Roosters.

“Parramatta have conceded they won’t be able to match rival offers”

This should be etched on our jersey somewhere or in a plaque in front of our empty trophy cabinet (empty apart from the wooden spoons of course)....

No great. Storm were in the same boat with Munster and he stayed rather than going to a shit club. Fingers crossed.

Firmly in the "stuff" category. I'd be interested to know what other sports some of you guys are into.

Anyone else follow World Superbikes / MotoGP / V8's?

They had an off night. It doesn’t mean we were a better team.
So did we and we still beat them, we couldn’t complete a set to save our lives. Moses had a shocker with his boot and we still beat them. I do think they are the team to challenge the Riff going forward.

Think quantitative rather than qualitative. The whole reason I prefer points differential to number of wins is negate it’s more granular. So when comparing teams by points differential a difference of 153 points isn’t in the same as an 8 point difference. I will say the Cowboys were better than the Roosters, who were better than us. The Sharks and the Roosters were on par.

I suspect this particular Parra team's overall outcome has probably peaked at the grand final appearance. I can't see the current squad improving to a level that will improve on that without the inclusion of at least a couple more higher quality players than what is currently contracted.

We've failed to miss the finals after our last three grand final appearances, and haven't made the grand final in the immediate following year after our last four grand final appearances. I fear history will repeat itself with the squad we have at the moment.

A lengthy suspension for Junior out of the World Cup GF and a decision by both Moses and Brown to sign elsewhere, and I'd be almost prepared to write off 2023 now.
