Its great to see the Roosters make it work
Corey Allan, Nathan Brown, Matt Lodge even the Cheese are going great guns for the chooks.
Sam Walker has been dropped and Suualli is probably getting pushed out a year early to Rugby.
While in all that Robbo's plodder love child Hutchinson gets picked at Centre most weeks.
The only real error the Roosters have made in the last 2 years or so is persisting with their halves combination.
Keary due to his head injuries is never going to be the player he once was. End of. I get that they don't want to be totally asreholey about it and just cut him ruthlessly, but that is the real problem right there. Sam Walker was meant to be the anecdote, but as good as he is for a kid, his and Keary's defense is just atrocious. I call them both Kryptonite players. Every team has them, You know a player who is likely to implode either defensively or offensively and hobble their own teams chances of success. Smart teams know how to spot them and keep at it all game.
Anyway because Keary is now gun shy he is not playing anywhere near what he would be and used to as a ball distributor and playmaker, but now carries more liability in his game then asset. The players are not connected the way they should be or used to be and it all comes from him and add that that they have more of a lock then a DH playing 9, and you can see where their issues lie. They just can't get the fluency right against a team that is playing well. It has slowly pushed them into playing dumb aggressive footy to compensate even more then usual. But it is only leading to more penalties and dumb errors.
I am loving it. So great to watch the Bankers Club get it wrong for once, be it due to compassionate grounds. But it wont last long I know. I mean the have already added another top forward that is better then what they have up front other then Collins in the young Spencer Leniu for just $525K. Someone we could only dream of at that price. So I don't think Keary will last much longer. Even though the coach won't want to bone him, he will eventually have no choice. Unless he can jag a genuine half playmaker from somewhere else that isn't a Kryptonite player, and then can shift Keary to his preferred role at 5/8th. But I doubt that will happen quickly enough.
I expect Keary will eventually get another head knock, two max and be done. I don't wish this on anyone and hope I am way off, but this is my gut feeling. If it does happen though, he will be offered a decision like their former captain was.
The Knights are facing a similar scenario. It is plainly obvious no matter what the player says publically, it is playing heavily on Ponga's mind. I mean how gun shy was he against us ffs? He was the worst Kryptonite player I have seen in ages out there and we destroyed them due to it. Sure the Knights as a whole played badly, but what was happening around him due to Kalyn's indecision and nervousness bleads into the whole defensive structure as we all know.
Kryptonite players. Almost all teams have them. The good teams though have enough good players around them to minimise the damage. We unfortunately this season have to many to cover up and are leaking to many points that will keep us at the bottom of the ladder.
Maybe if we get real lucky when Potato Head is finally gone in 2026 we may start to address them properly. Who am I kidding, whoever the new bloke is will probably be dumber then Potato Head and then all the apologists will point and stare and chirp to us we told you, we told you, careful what you wish for, the grass isn't always greener, and crap like that. The pessimistic fatalist will think have won. Just like they think that they won every time we make a dud signing like a big fat forward that can't play or a outside back that can't run fast or tackle well.
They never stop to think these decisions are made by the people in charge. Some clubs have smart cookie operators and others have Potato Head and Co. The Roosters will right the ship way quicker and win a Premiership or two way sooner then we will make our next GF, let alone win it.
