Can we refrain from the autistic slurs everyone. I have an autistic son and he is an amazing person. One of the better humans we share this earth with.

I've been very impressed with Ryles' work to date - signing Addo-Carr (a risk, but he's a rep-quality player, and he is fast), his choice of support team (I've been very impressed listening to Sam, Browny, and the other coaches delivering their views; they're a breath of fresh air), the way he conducts himself, and the way he has stamped his authority on this club since before he even joined the club.

Very, very, VERY impressed.

But can I ask you a question if he started to stop being nice and let’s hypothetically assume he created a username and called himself @Poupou Escobar and started pissing people off, is he allowed to be called out? Are we allowed to assume that the autism may have contributed to his behaviour and if we do are we insulting everyone in the world with autism, even my coworker who loves pizza?

Imo, yes.

However, Squire's perception is different to my own - and I do agree that the term "autistic" should never be used in a derogatory manner.

Personally, I didn't think you used the term "autistic" in a derogatory manner; I took it to mean that you genuinely believe Pou may be autistic.

And I think it's important to let people know when others are neuro divergent - they really do have different needs, and so letting people know is beneficial for everyone.

If someone becomes a problem, they can absolutely be called out.

I, personally, don't have a problem with Pou - I think he's quite bright, and has a very good sense of humour, and I've found I can have a good discussion with him on most topics.

But I can see why some people find him grating.

Ultimately, this is what makes the world great - so many people are so different from one another.

As long as we respect each other, even when we disagree, it's all good.

I've got some friends who use the term "autistic" to insult someone, much like kids did when I was young with the term "spastic".

I try to educate these men on a regular basis, but it falls on deaf ears.

You’ve nailed it. My son is 18. We have had many challenges. It’s sad and confronting when your son pulls you aside and tells you he’s had suicidal thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear that, mate.

I can't imagine how awful that would be.

My son is only 4, but he has already come up to me and asked, "Daddy, why don't the kids want to play with me?"

It broke me. I burst into tears, and cuddled him.

It's really tough for neuro divergent people - the world literally is not designed for them.

Just have to do our best to support them

Think this whole commentary on autism and using disability labels as insults or jabs at people is really important, as it’s a massive issue in society. Whilst I don’t think anyone on here is using it to specifically cause insult, that doesn’t make it acceptable.

I was once part of that issue as a young man. I’d casually call an idiot friend a “spastic” or a “genius”. Maturity has taught me that’s not right and being ignorant of how words hurt others isn’t an excuse.

It took me having a son born with Downs Syndrome and the associate heart conditions that often come with that for me to wake up. I wouldn’t wish that lesson on anyone, so I try to educate my mates. And yeah it falls on deaf ears at times, but they know not to say that shit around me. And if I hear someone in public even a stranger using those words I tell them to pull their head in.

Neuro-diverse people, disabled people, don’t choose their condition, but we can choose the language we use.
