Yeah we don't need a player like Norman, we have guys like Kelly and Cornish ready to step up.

If we lose Norman we will replace him from outside the club. Just because we don't want to spend $800k (for example) on a half doesn't mean we only want to spend $80k. The right amount is somewhere in between. It might be that the ideal solution is to have Foran partnered with a half worth $400k - $500k (probably what Norman is on right now). There are plenty of halves on the market who will end up signing for that, even if they are currently holding out for more.

If tpa's get added into our cap, we may have less then what we'd like to spend on players.

As it stands, peats, Gordon and Norman are all unsigned for 2017. That's 3 out of our 4 spine players. Don't you find that a little odd at this stage?

no. Gordon is old and it doesn't seem anyone is after him. Cootes would be a better buy

We already sured up our hooker in Kaysa. We can wait to pickup a cheaper IDG or peats

Its the hb we need to focus on and a prop

"Until the NRL hand down their findings, the Eels are in the middle of a contract freeze, unable to register any new contracts for the likes of off-contract stars Corey Norman and Nathan Peats."

Surely we could just say 'sign this deal, and we promise will get it registered later' :) What could possibly go wrong?

Go after Cleary from Panthers :)
Or Croker for Canberra

We are in a position to sign Norman on decent coin due to having a fullback on small coin.

It is about balance. Storm managed - Slater-Cronk-Smith in the same team.

We do have to be smart thou. Peats and Norman are good players but we still won games with De gois and Kaysa. Peats is going to want a 3 yr deal so unless you see Kaysa as a back up or no more then a bench option for the next 3 yrs .
If we sign Peats and Kaysa is simply to good for that role we will lose Kaysa - Simple.

The 3 players off contract that would hurt was Peats-Jnr-Norman
If i could only of chosen 2 it would be Norman and Jnr. I would of then re-signed De gois for a year. And banked on Kaysa /King coming good.Adn at worse Nelson could fill in.

I am not saying not to sign peats or that Kaysa is as good or de gois.
But if peats demanded 500k and de gois was around 200k i would go the cheaper option

I think your last sentence is the thing to consider. If yoy could only keep two of jnr, Peats and normy... We'll first jnr is gone and irrespective if we didn't keep normy or peats I would not have matched the coin Canberra have reportedly paid. Peats I think is a bit of a unsung hero, his defence is easily the best of any middle player and his attacking is coming along. Of all our hooking options he is the only one able to ball play in general play, like the ball he threw that edric Lee intercepted. It was a good play but well defended but it's not the first time he has done that, De gois or prichard are simple hookers and Peats service is head a shoulders above.
Obviously Normy should be out first priority and Peats if we're smart can be signed up on a good value deal considering his injury history.
If he have a solid 6/7/9 for 5 to 8 years we will be top 5ish for that period, have workers and the odd flashy outside back or Backrower like Edwards or Man'u and we will create a dynasty

Peats is very important member of our squad, yeah he isn't the greatest hooker in the game but I reckon his attitude plays a big part in what we are achieving. Tough as and a real competitior and probably trains the house down providing a good example to other players.

While Issac is a similar player he is a lot older, 33 next year so I think he is no longer a like replacement for peats. Issac will probably decline from now on.

Actually think it would be harder to replace peats then Norman ( based on winning starts in the middle with winning the ruck).

Don't get me wrong, Norman is great and we should keep him but we are lucky that we have two great halves.

Pritchard is potentially better then peats but needs some time.

I do think that article makes more sense than Massoud's, not that I believe much if anything that the media produce but while this investigation is taking place I cant see how we are in any position to offer any player a re-signing or contract upgrade.

If we end up with NRL appointed bean counters on our board they wont care if we lose anyone and wont have the passion to care if we win or lose, just the fact that we are compliant.

But at 25 will Kaysa cost what he does at 20? Kaysa has proven and done nothing other than be injured for the last 2 years

He's proven that at his best he is very effective. That's a great foundation to build on, and a sign of high potential in player his age. He will certainly be a better player at 25 (he is only 22 this year), unless he suffers a career ending injury.

Pritchard has only played 12 NRL games and shown huge potential. Give him 2-3 years of full time NRL, and he could be anything

He has shown he is quick around the ruck but not sure he has shown great vision, he has inconsistent service and is a tough defender with a lot of guts and hard worker. Peats has all his qualities in defence and more, i think his slower out of dumby half but has better vision and service and generally more of a playmaker.
In 2013 (peats 22/23 a year older than kaysa) he played for city, 2014 he was being touted as Farahs replacement, if peats left tomorrow I don't know if Kaysa could. Be as good as peats was in 2013/4 and i doubt he'd even be supersed DeGois.
Price is important and with Peats injury history we may get him cheaper. I would only overpay for certain players and Peats isn't one of those but i would try and keep him over DeGois, Prichard and King

After losing Paulo there should be no excuses at not re-signing Norman or Peats as far as i'm concerned.

We know someone will tell us the reasons why we can't keep both.........

The reason is simple - another club is willing to pay more than we are. Do you think we lost Paulo because we couldn't afford to keep him? We lost him because Canberra offered more than we thought he was worth.

What if other clubs offer Norman and/or Peats more than we think they're worth? Should we let other clubs dictate our judgement of their value?

That's is 3 years away. We might get great value out of him untill then.

Read my posts - Peats is a better player. But if we sign him for 3 yrs we may end up losing Kaysa.Especially if he becomes a genuine first grade player.

Kaysa could become a great hooker and we could get a good amount of value from him over the next 2-3 years before he costs us a lot.

Peats is a proven good player but will cost what he is worth. Also a little injury prone and potentially will get even better.

The question is can Kaysa do almost as good a job for less then half what Peats would cost? Id say we could sign both Kaysa and de gois for peats money
