The reason is simple - another club is willing to pay more than we are. Do you think we lost Paulo because we couldn't afford to keep him? We lost him because Canberra offered more than we thought he was worth.

What if other clubs offer Norman and/or Peats more than we think they're worth? Should we let other clubs dictate our judgement of their value?

Some mothers do havem Pou...... You get yourself into trouble by over paying. Even thou it seems a bitter pill to swallow at the time.
Certain positions id pay overs for thou as hard to find a replacement. The thing with hooker is we have some decent options. So we would be silly to pay overs.

And i disagree, i think Kaysa won't be anywhere as good or durable as Peats. Reality is we will lose one of them sooner or later just as broncos lost Granville. Kaysa game is built on his speed out of acting half but we don't know if he will ever develop into a peats. I'd keep Kaysa over DeGois but not Peats but they aren't mutually exclusive if we can keep both that is great. Peats can create a dynasty with Norman and Foran, i don't see Kaysa doing that. If we have our 6/7/9 sorted it will allow us to get better value out of out edges and forwards like Melbourne have for the last 10 years

But I wouldn't overpay for peats, no way. I hope someone like him and normy realise their best option or rep footy is here with BA and that will always help line their pockets and make up for the short fall

Just to put the brakes on the comparison with Melbourne, but their money was always in their 1/7/9, not their 6/7/9. There is a fair difference.

Bellamy has repeatedly shown how unimportant the secondary half needs to be, moving Inglis from 6 to centre in 2009 (replaced by Maloney and then Finch), and then using a succession of reasonably priced options - Widdop, Roberts and Green.

Norman is good enough to be a primary half, and if he doesn't want to play fullback we might be better off swapping him and Gordon for a better fullback and a not-as-good half (e.g. Coote and Green).

I'm not bagging Corey Norman - I f**king love him - but it might be that he's too good (by which I mean 'too expensive') to keep and partner with Foran. And Gordon's okay but there are much better fullbacks out there.

I think in our structure of a primary and secondary half it negates the need for a ball playing fullback. Also the current top 2 teams in Brisbane and Cowboys have quality 6 and 7 with good reliable 9 and 1 without either fullback being flashy

That's right. It's important to remain dispassionate, at least for the decision makers. Obviously it doesn't matter to us fans, but if you want to understand why the decision makers make the decisions they do, you have to start from a position of cold logic.

Agreed. While it might hurt our overall team quality to have $2M (for example) of our cap tied up in our halves, if there were no other options on the market than re-signing Cornish (even if it was as cheap as $100k), then that would hurt us even more, and we would be better off paying huge money for Norman. But be aware that it would hurt us having him on that much, even if he was worth it in isolation.

Rather than asking 'What is Corey Norman worth?', a better question is 'What should our secondary half (partnering Foran) be worth to us under a balanced cap?' The answer could well be less than what Norman is worth and that a cheaper half (like Blake Green) would be more suitable.

They are worth what they are offered. What if Titans offer peats $500k and dragons Norman $900k ?? Should we match that ?

And at the same time Brooks manager offered us, him for $500k? What should we do then?

Norman will get what he is worth. Other clubs will be watching him and help determine his value.

Good example is Segyaroo.... I am hearing Panthers have signed cherrington.Not cause they do not rate segs but they had a bargain buy from him.Now he has been exposed he is over valued.

There are a few hooker that be on the marker - Segs- Kostagyn of top of head.

Coote behind Moylan is the best playmaking fullback in the comp.

Boyd is the best all round game fullback in comp.

Fair bit of class difference between them and Gordon.

If we go hard for Coote, I would say $500K-$550K, then we can look at getting a cheaper 6 like Blake Green and I still think Wallace we be good.

Then we can tell Normey and GOrdon to pack their bags or hangout in the visitors change rooms

I don't want to sound like a know it all P$%K but mid last year i was calling for us to make an offer for Barba who was deemed excess at the sharks at the time.
