That's true, and as much as I love watching Hayne play, I do think the balance in this squad is better without him - much as it pains me to say it.

Still - I'd love it if he came back and won us a comp.

We've also gotten rid of some other highly paid players: Sandow, Lussick, Hoppa. We were getting a lot more value out of Hayne than these 3.

I agree that the squad is now very balanced, but it's not like he won't excel or the team wont be better with him there.

It's like when he walks into the NSW SOO or Australian team.

Plenty of talent there but he can still do his thing.

It means we would just have so much more options in attack

The Origin side doesn't have a salary cap to worry about. You can't include Hayne in our squad without losing a lot of talent elsewhere.

Even hoping Jarryd makes a go of his second season in NFL, he and his manager would be pretty darned silly if they hadn't sounded out a "what if" option come July, if the new coach doesn't want raw experiments near his top 53.

I suspect overseas Union might be the best option, but if an NRL club is constantly knocking at your door with ready cash in hand... it beats having to learn a whole new code/playbook.

They won't even have started training by 30 June so he'll still be a 49er at that stage. Are you suggesting he will give up while he is training for his dream? You are kidding yourself!

You want him to go to union! You have no idea what Hayne wants to do.

Funnily enough I was thinking on Friday night how f**king well he would fit in our current squad and how much he would have destroyed the Dogs on Friday night.

We're simply not going to "come up with a package" for Jarryd.

We are at the limit of cap expenditure (as seen by recent reviews/fines), and have moved on to trying to have a balanced squad (as per Arthur's quote about strengthening the side not the position of fullback) instead of saving space for the prodigal son.

The only hope of Hayne coming back to Parra is if Watmough retires, and - given that Paulo is leaving - that salary money is probably better devoted to positions other than fullback. The Roosters can have him, Jarryd's more than ready to move on from us (as he showed by cutting short his Eels contract).

Once again, you sound bitter or something. It's like it's personal or something. Did he cut your grass or something?

Fair sentiments Eele. But I actually think this squad will win a comp without Hayne soon enough (this year/next year) :D.

Well of course they could but not to entertain adding a 2 time Dally M at 28 or 29 is f**king plain dumb.

f**k him

prick left us in the lurch and wanted to go to the Roosters

Yep, it's all been orchestrated for him to go to the Roosters. Uncle Nick paid the 49ers to play him this year, it was nothing to do with Hayne's commitment and talent. It's all Uncle Nick. Do you know how much more money the owners of NFL franchises have than Uncle Nick????

And how many games has he played for the Roosters????

Exactly! Criticise him if he goes straight to the Roosters without us knocking him back!

Hayne turned down 1.5 mill a year for 100k.....

If parra could only offer a total package of around 1 million and roosters could come up with 1.4 i reckon he would still chose Parra. Isn't a money chaser and my opinion is he would love to pay back the club.

On the down side If we re-sign Norman and have Foran along with Semi and Jennings do we put that much money into the backline? It means our forward pack will get a lot weaker. I think we have a good balance at the moment. Perhaps re-sign gordon for a year unless we think Bevan is ready in that case we have a cheap fullback for maybe another 2 seasons.

Re: money chasing ... I think going to the NFL is considerably different to coming back to the NRL. I reckon he will want to be paid well at a game he has proved himself a superstar at already. I think he would want to come back and win apremiership at parra, but if we cant get close to the best alternative offer then i wouldnt be surprised to see him play elsewhere

Just because you have the best player in the game doesn't mean you're getting value out of him.

I'm sure we can all agree that Hayne at $500k is massive value and great for your team, but Hayne at $2M hurts your team and you're better off without him. So somewhere in between is the tipping point where he goes from asset to liability. Where is that tipping point? That's up to the clubs to decide, not Hayne.

Assuming Normie re signs, then Bevvie should be ripe by March next year to Claim the 1 shirt our only focus spots should be a dummy half and 2 decent middle forwards..

Quite possibly.

I'd just love to see Hayne lift the trophy, because he's one of the most talented players I've ever seen.

But if we win one without him, I won't exactly cry!

He would improve our team, undoubtedly - but due to what he'd command salary-wise, we would have to offload quality players, making us less balanced.

We were discussing the other day whether to keep Edwards or Ma'u starting, and who to drop to force Gower in - that's the sign of a balanced squad with great depth.

Hell, if you have to leave a player like Gower out if the 17 altogether, I'd say you've got a balanced side with depth.

Don't get me wrong, brother - I'd welcome Jarryd back in a second.

But to do so, realistically, we would have to shed players - probably blokes like Norman, Gordon, Scott, Watmough, Foran, Jennings, Radradra, etc.

Hayne is a victim of how good he us, by virtue of commanding a very high salary, leaving a lot of potential NRL squads unbalanced.

Imo, anyway.

The salary cap keeps going up so we have no idea how many players we have to lose to be honest.

BA may be able to build a team similar to the Storm where he has structures in place where he can plug forwards into his defensive schemes and spend more money on the more creative positions.

I'm not gonna cry if he doesn't come back to us regardless whether he gives us the first option or not but anyone saying we shouldn't look at him seems really odd.

Plus we don't know what kind of 3rd party deals he would attract after his stint in the NFL, he might only hit our cap for 500k.

Good points.

I guess we will have to see what pans out!

But seeing Jarryd in the Blue and Gold, winning a Premiership....it'd be a great sight.

Absolutely! I'll be happy regardless but for him, he deserves it and would be great for it to happen. We couldn't do it for Hindy but there is still a chance for Hayne.
