Its not something a veteran coach would say and it made Ciraldo seem a bit soft and unsure.. And ofcourse untrustworthy esp with no fg success to fall back on. I thought when I first read it it was a bit too “special”

The actual poaching isnt the issue. If he just came out and said 'im committed to making the bulldogs a force and will be targeting the best players to do so' i dont think anyone would hold that against him. Saying that he wont target the Panthers, to then sign Crichton, and offer Leinu/Luai deals is just plain lying.

I also find it hilarious that Gus had banged on about this 'halves academy' they have. Yes if they get Luai will then have two external first grade halves signed for 5 years. Yes great incentive for 16-20 year old halves in your system.

Ciraldo's comment was the most ridiculous comment made in a very long time about contracts. If you (as a player) decide to go on the open market. Of course your willing to leave your current club.

Gus was NEVER going to walk away from Luai once he hit the open market. Doesn't matter that it makes almost no sense, and that Burton and Luai paired together would probably be an akward fit. Gus LOVES shiny new toys. I can't see how he fits without the dogs shedding player or players.

Gould and Ciraldo are attempting the replicate what happens at Penrith. TBH that rarely ends well. Look at the teams attempting to do this when the Storm were on top, it always ended in tears.

Pulling AFB offer is an interesting one. AFB would have been awesome for us, but Richo is right, we have an excellent forward pack already. If pulling AFB gets Luai and Olam over the line then I'm all for it.

I'm all for it anyway. Paying big bucks for a position that is not a priority at the moment doesn't make sense.

Luai would be an awesome signing.

Olam, yeah an improvement, not overly fussed if we don't get him especially if it is because we won't pay more than his true value.

I just woke to the fact that the was a rumour about Richo prior to the review outcome being released.

I wonder how long back had the conversation with Richo started, after all, someone within the organization had to bring his name up in a conversation, make contact, Richo agree to that chat, listen to, appraise the club etc etc etc.

Richo is by reputation an astute businessman and a decision like accepting a role at WT would not have been made overnight.

I think with Leniu and Crichton they maybe said that we’re leaving Penrith or the club said it’s fine for them to leave?...but with Luai neither he nor the club has said it …Ciraldo said therefore he won’t chase him. It makes him seem highly moral toward his old club but obviously Gus straightened him out

Like really, Crichton decides to not sign with Penrith and then comes out two days later to announce he is signing with the Dogs? So he announces he is leaving Penrith without a deal agreed elsewhere? And then he agrees a mega deal with the Dogs (from supposedly not talking to them at all to signed/sealed/delivered in 2 days!!).

Look, I have no qualms with the player looking elsewhere for better money (as long as they play out their contract to the best of their ability, and our leaving players have a good track record of that). Equally, if I was a fan of a club that wasn’t travelling as well as Penrith, I would be looking at our players and expecting my club to make a play where appropriate. But let’s be honest about it; the new club is chasing the Penrith player (and should do so), and the key reason the player is doing it is to maximise their contract (again, they have a right to do so).

I feel that the Tigers have been honest about their intentions (not all for noble reasons, Pascoe had a blind spot when it came to the Panthers and the Cleary boys (from when his power play a few years back blew up in his face)) while the Dogs are not.

For that reason I would prefer Luai (if he leaves, I hope I he doesn’t) goes to the Tigers. And the Tigers would be getting one hell of a player.

But that is a double edged sword. Luai is a very fine player but his best qualities are his character (it’s an unpopular opinion if you read the right wing press and listen to the commentators who appeal to the racist underbelly of league supporters). So if you do sign our half who is 3x premiership winning, was the starting 5/8th when NSW smashed QLD twice in QLD to win back the shield and then led his 2nd tier nation to the WC final (ie a f@cking legend (the technical term)) and he doesn’t turn it all around for you, I will be p!ssed off if this forum isn’t self reflective enough to not mercilessly turn on him.

I still have doubts about Ciraldo as a head coach.. He could still fail with these players and do another siebold..There’s a lot more to it than just sending gun players out onto the field each weekend…. and Gould talking over his shoulder with more desperation perhaps with each loss may be too much for the novice..
And he seems to know how to get into the news with his methods..

One point, a lot of Penrith posters knock us for shitting on Ivan when he shit on us, but we no longer (that I recall) give a f**k, but you are still banging on about Pascoe, who left you and is no longer employed by us?

Dogs are on a journey, and the person to lead them on that journey over the next 3-4 years will have the job of making them competitive and challenging for or making the 8. Gould is following the blueprint he had at Penrith; just fill the team with character and sort out the juniors. It’s likely that when they get to the position of challenging for the 8 that Ciraldo is being consider for a change (similar to Cleary’s first stint).

I think Richardson will do the same thing at WT (if he sticks around) but his MO is do it quicker but without the lasting benefits. So he will bring the talented youngsters in and sign good players, but it’s not really his skill set to develop the pathways to continue the production line to build the next level of depth required to sustain excellent over time.

Fair enough re Pascoe, but he only left the company 3 days ago and he was leading (and was extremely vocal about) the still live Luai negotiations at that point. So I think my point is still relevant but hopefully (for Tigers fans) the situation moves on quicker from here; you have a good, classy operator in Richo.

Also fair call on Ivan. There is a joke on the Panthers sub-forum that everything that goes wrong at the Tigers is still ‘Ivan’s fault’, but maybe that has grown its own legs there and isn’t a thing on the Tiger’s sub-forum these days. I only venture across occasionally so will take it on board.
