Being on a development contract he might just turn out to be the bargain of the year.
Or leader in the most missed tackles award. The guy sounds promising but there is usually a reason why someone with those stats havnt been picked up earlier. He has ability so hopefully Benji can ensure that everything else ,if any can be addressed

I just put this on the pathways thread.
On Twitter:
Penrith CEO Matt Cameron confirmed on SEN recently that from 2024, Development Players can play NRL from Round 1, Train & Trial players can play NRL after Round 10.

Agree, theres clearly something going on as based off his highlights the bloke could walk into an NRL side. Still its a positive we're going for guys like this on these lower type deals as opposed to what we've done previously with your Junior Pauga types

Just found this on Twitter:
In 2 full seasons of Qld Cup (2022/23), Faataape has 28 tries, 15 try assists, 33 line breaks, 149 tackle breaks, while averaging 146 running metres per game in 39 games.
Thinking aloud here, but have they brought him in, because Olam is looking shaky?
-------------------

Solomona Faataape has been rewarded for his impressive 2023 season with an NRL opportunity.

That is according to Zero Tackle, who reports Faataape has signed a train-and-trial deal with the Wests Tigers.

The 23-year-old won the Queensland Cup premiership last season with Brisbane Tigers — a Melbourne Storm feeder side. He scored 16 tries, set up 10 and got 14 linebreaks in 21 games while averaging four tackle busts and 155 running metres per game.

Faataape, a powerful centre, was also named Players’ Player for 2023 at the Brisbane Tigers’ end of season awards night.

It’s Faataape’s second full-time NRL pre-season having spent last summer with the Storm’s top squad.

At this stage, the Tigers have no spots left in their Top 30, but do have one supplementary contract left. Faataape would be available for NRL selection from Round 11 regardless of whether he is upgraded to a supplementary contract or stays on a train-and-trial.
----------------
Can anyone explain what a supplementary contract is?

According to his QRL stats: 147 tackles made, 52 missed. 73% efficiency.

Now that could well be considered pretty standard for a centre it QLD cup (I really don't know), but doesn't inspire confidence for him making it in the NRL.

For every 147 tackle attempts he succeeds 95 times thats 95/147 x100 = 65% success rate ..or 6.5 times every 10 tackles.. As long as he running over players and scoring tries I guess its not tragic

Never heard of it. Based on the context, I'd say it just means a development contract.

I'm hearing a rumour that Olam signing is part of a wider master plan to re-unite Olam and Addo-Carr combo. Apparently we are just waiting to see if Tupou backflips on Dolphins deal before going after Addo-Carr.

*starting

That's a juicy one. Hard to imagine how Addo-Carr would fit. He's on as much as Nofoaluma and for just as long.

I thought efficiency rate meant effective tackles not tackles made. If I'm right he is a shit tackler and that's why others didn't sign. him. Maybe they think he can be a better version of James Roberts ??

From https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35804

Development player contracts replaced by “Supplementary list”. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, paid $80,000, can play from Round 1. Bonus of $3,000 for any NRL game.

Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11 (ie after Round 10).

Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Top 30 players can seek a release from their contract if dropped below State Cup level.

I didn’t say that.

I did say Nate is the better player.

I stand by that.

He will be an immortal, I have no doubt.
Maybe Cleary will be a Immortal but you did talk shit about Joey being a stoner

Here's your post to refresh your memory.

I have to rate Nate better than Joey. He’s got more strings to his bow.

Plus he’s not a jolly jumper stoner.

Yea effective tackles 6.5 out of the total attempts (for every 10 attempts) ..Doesn’t sound great. They must think he’s worth trying to fix…overweight? I’m guessing he’s still a boy.. Any more closer to 5 would’ve been difficult..

Thanks for the clarification mate,

Not exactly setting the world on fire defensively but lets hope he can Improve for us.
Sometimes you have to mine in the dirt to find diamonds in the rough but surely there's a a few Kurt Capewell type players in Q cup that we could have gone after ?
It will be Interesting to see if Richo stays around if our recruitment and retention Improves markedly.
Here's hoping.

“Boom young centre” at 23 if he was that good he’d have been signed by the rorters for a pittance
23 ok.. at least there’s less chance of losing him to the rorters if he can come good with the 4 amigos on board, rather than our “gilligans island” show from the past. He’s got to be worth a look at least

You would think the cap would be an issue for this.

Unless, maybe they can release Nofo ($525k), plus I doubt they will resign Doeuihi ($600k).

If you had to choose one only, who would it be. Olum ($475k?) or JAC ($550k).
Note: Salary figures from Zerotackle, Olum's salary not given, but I thought I remember it was this amount?

I hope it's not from the same dodgy informant as mine ha ha.
Lets say we get both Olam and Carr and they play as good as in their former glory days....add to that Luai and a good forward pack, would we still find a way to stuff it up?

I wonder what a crystal ball would show, who becomes redundant first?
Atm, a fit Carr is a tad quicker than Noffa. :)
Noffa looks like he's running on roller skates these days.
A swap would be very nice.
