Another shock club has entered the race for Ben Hunt, with Mat Rogers reporting that Ben Hunt is set to sign with the Wests Tigers.
The St George Illawarra Dragons halfback and skipper requested a release on Saturday afternoon, which was then knocked back by the Dragons, with the club denying him the release.
Getting ready to lace up his boots tonight for Queensland, Hunt is set to meet with the Dragons' board and incoming coach Shane Flanagan once he returns to the club to speak about his contract.
The Canterbury Bulldogs, Dolphins, and Gold Coast Titans - the frontrunners - have all so far shown interest in the Queensland and Australian playmaker.
However, according to Mat Rogers on SEN 1170, the Wests Tigers have entered the race for Hunt and will reportedly be the club he ends up at if he doesn't stay with the Dragons.
According to Rogers, the Wests Tigers are set to offer Ben Hunt a salary of $1 million per season.
"They are going to pay him a million bucks (per season)," Roger said on SEN 1170.
"It's from a source that I trust.
"I'm just a bit baffled by it."
The Wests Tigers are in the market for a new halfback after Luke Brooks rejected a contract extension put forward by the club. While coach Tim Sheens confirmed on Saturday night that the club is on the lookout for a quality half.
With Luke Brooks set to leave the club at the end of the season, Brandon Wakeham off-contract and Adam Doueihi injured, the club currently has no first-grade halves signed for next season.
Could someone make it f**king happen, ffs.

It isn’t happening. We’ve got buckleys of nabbing the signature of a gun NRL half like Hunt as we can’t compete with the elite vultures like the rorters & dogs for elite players. We need to sign half a dozen of the best halves encompassing junior rep teams & lower grades in the hope that 1 will turn out to be the diamond we desperately need long term.

Holbrook sacked by the Titans today, Des announced as new coach for next year, Hunt saying main priority is to go home. All this cant be a coincidence, there is nothing in the rules that would of stopped Des from meeting with Hunt over the last month as he was not officially tied with any club.

TWT Instagram post, is saying we are interested in Jack Cogger from panthers?
Why ?

I am Impressed they kept that from leaking out. Ruthless call but well played. No chance we could keep a secret like that.

Another TWT instagram rumour, Benji is checking to see if Jock Madden is keen to come back and chasing the Fainu brothers from Manly?

Titans will have DCE and Foran driving the team next year

Watching the Warriors run has to make you question the wisdom of the tigers footy management. Webster has made a hell of a difference coaching that team. Wonder if he would’ve had the nous to have changed the Tigers direction

I don't question the wisdom of Tigers footy management. I'm confident that there is no wisdom to found there, especially after hearing they are sounding out Jock Madden for a return.

Also, I'm glad Hunt has said he wants to return to Queensland. It was very underwhelming performance from him tonight.

Yeah but he's had the benefit of a couple more years as an assistant at a premiership winning club...our only chance to have locked him in was over 4 years ago before we signed Madge when he was the interim coach...he could have bombed out big time if thrown the keys then.....or not :)

If we trying to recover Jock we may as well ask Mbye to return, maybe Esan at 5/8.

Plenty of time left this year for more harrowing recruitment decisions and further de-coaching.

Nothing surprises me anymore from the worst club management, officials and coaching staff in the games history.

The Titan submariners had more chance of survival than we have of coming out of this next 5 years with anything approaching a competitive footy side.

No point of tapping on the hull Benji, when the club has explosively decompressed.

That poor kid on board was like us, didn’t want a part of it. What a waste.

We need someone.

As far as Im aware. Douehi is the only half we have signed beyond this year and hes off the paddock for most of next year.

If we get Madden and resign Wakeman at least we have two halves to put on a field. Then we can be patient about signing better rather than being the team that missed out on everyone.

How does and why does Brisbane get Hunt’s services for the rest of the season (if he leaves)?

They’ve already got Reynolds and Madden, doesn’t a salary cap apply to them?

Wtf are we doing, we have one half left?
