hearing Jeremy Smith will be back in the Red V next year..
Jeremy smith will only be in the Red V next season if the sharks sign luke lewis and thus decide not to re-sign smith...
if the sharks miss out on lewis they will keep smith...

I wonder can we sign both Lewis and Smith. Sign Sminth first and then grab Lewis ahead of the Sharks. Imagin the pack:

Weyman
Rein
Merrin
Creagh
Smith
Lewis

Bench
Hunt
De Belin
Frizell
King

No I did not forget about:
Prior
Marketo
Latimore
Stockwell
and all the up and coming from NYC and the Cutters. They will gain selection through injury, form slumps and replacing rep players. Those who I have listed are the players who I believe are the best possible.

Would love Smith back in the Red V (never wanted him to go and really should not have left to begin with) but seriously why would the Sharks release him? There is no way they would under any circumastances he is their go to man and steps up when Gallen is out.

Jeremy wants a release for family/location reasons I believe.

Hope we get him back but we still don't have a half.

There's no way that Smith and Lewis are either/or signings. If we were in for Smith it was because he can provide some starch and experience for a season or two while some of our younger players mature into genuine first graders. He's tough, he's a leader and he was part of the drought breaking Premiership team, but he's already in his thirties and that makes him a signing of the type that Priddis was back in 2009. A good player, with a role to play, but not someone who re-vitalises the team.

Lewis would be a signing of a different class. A current in-form Origin player who would have the impact and influence to genuinely make the team into a more formidable premiership challenger in his own right and from day one. He's 28, could easily be signed for three years at $350k as absolute minimum per season, and be expected to be a leader and possibly captain for all three of those years (or at least two if Price and Doust still have the Horndog at half next season).

If Doust misses out on Lewis and then makes any attempt to suggest that getting Smith is an equivalent sort of signing he needs to be held to account.

Apart from a crack halfback of similar stature, Lewis fits the bill of exactly what we need. If we're not exceeding the Scum's offer by $50K to get him on board there needs to be a royal commission. And if signing Lewis means we can't afford Smith that's the sacrifice we make.

Not even an argument or debate.

In fact, seriously, if a good and solid backrower in his thirties is the limit of our forward recruitment ambition, get used to 2012 because 2013 isn't going to be much different.

The SBW circus can get stuffed, stay away fro us please, let the Rooters deal with the primadonna.

Agree. I was just asking BBC if he wanted SBW, as he is always advocating us making a "really huge play" for anyone who becomes available.
