Russ Aitken or Greg Bird

I will remind you that Aitken is playing half and Bird is returning from 10 weeks off. I reckon the score is still 0 - 0.

I hope Aitken does become our full time 5/8th when Noddy returns though.

I STILL haven't seen Aitken play.
Only caught the first half last week. What little game time he had in that half was spent at dummy half.

By all reports he was head and shoulders above Sully at half in terms of organisation.

Wiht Sully at the helm we were a disorganised rabble.
He is definitely far more effective off the bench and out of dummy half.

Nutley has repeated his famous quote on Aitken is this weeks Big League. Talking about the Canberra game Nutters said
On a positive note we saw Russ Aitken get a chance and he's definately a player of the future. He's got the best ball skills I've ever seen in a player

ali, you seem to have seen the kid a bit.

What would be his best position?

Not in this side, in general.

I know you asked Ali but i have a go at that question Angry as i could probably vouch for having seen him play the most out of anyone on this forum.
I played alongside Russ for many years and i think 5/8 is definately his best position. I know you could make an argument that 5/8's play the opposite side of the field to the halfback these days but i think 5/8 suits him more because him a bit more space to work with as he is two off the ruck.
There is more opportunity for him to put players into gaps and for him to have a go himself. It also means he doesnt have to worry about organising the forwards and he can concerntrate on whats going on out wider.
Just my opinion.

Mate no problem thanks for the info, I've seen him once, and you've played with him, I consider your answer well qualified.
And that was the answer I was hoping for.
All is good.

Bird can lay for Caringbah A Grade, or help us win the PL Premiership. Never put him in 1st Grade again!

If 5/8 becomes an obsolete position then Russ could be a long term half back. I think he is best suited to 5/8, but if he isn't going to get the ball, like in a few PL games this season, then he may aswell be a halfback, assuming that he is better than the bloke wearing the 7.

Ideally I hope he's our long term number 6.

I'm not writing Bird off though. I hope he comes back as a forward. If he leaves us, I think the result could be similar to Finch leaving Canberra. They were all happy to see the back of Finch, but they are well on the way to looking stupid now.

The thing letting us down atm is the crappy defence, Merritt has to go .. he'd have to score 3 tries a game to make up for the 2 he lets in , how many has he scored this season. Bring back Rieck .. at least he can score a try !

Statistics 2004 season..source NRL.COM

Missed tackles
Simmons=26.....ave per game=2.2
Reick=6.......ave per game=1.0
Merritt=2......ave per game=0.3

These stats tell the REAL story

I'll take that apology now thanks Surely

+ 2 that weren't recorded. & he missed Mogg twice in that same movement. So now now you know it's wrong.
he's average, your flogging a dead horse.
Hopefully he watched Billy slater the other night & can find the enthusiasm to improve to become 1/100th as good has him.
