In my limited experience of such matters, when a CEO's contract is not renewed it's because the Board feels the business/organisation/club should be doing much better. In our case it's more likely that the Board knows an old boy who needs a job.
Didn’t the article say they would be looking outside the club ?
Although it could still be an old boy who’s currently at another club.

LOL, the best they could come up with in that article is:

“Under Webb’s leadership, the club talked captain Ben Hunt down from his release request following the axing of coach Anthony Griffin, though the halfback’s future will once again be in the spotlight given his contract is due to expire next year.”

Imagine that being your crowning achievement after 5 years in a job. “Well, I made sure a player that had a contract didn’t get out of that contract”.

No finals appearances, on ya bike son.

Mixed feelings about this. Webb has at least turned the finances around and got the club to where they can now afford to invest in things that should help the club in the future, like the centre of excellence. On the other hand our results on the field have not improved while he was there, we lost our major sponsor under his tenure, and the Hook re-sign/sack fiasco also happened on his watch. Seems to me like he is a good financial operator and probably the right guy to get the club on a better footing, but now we need someone more dynamic and outspoken to deal with our dysfunctional board and take us into the future.

Whoever that ends up being - Good Luck, you'll need it.

I was never convinced by him - seemed far too meek and conservative and didn't seem at all hungry for success on the football field, which is where a large part of his priorities should have been. And doubling down on Griffin was monumentally stupid and we're still paying for that idiotic decision with it still affecting our roster and recruitment long after the Coke guzzling One Nation clown has left town. Lets also not forget Webb was CEO when they were on the verge of giving L plate Ryles the job and only fluked into getting the actual best and most obvious candidate available, which was Flanno.
Hopefully someone gets the gig who realises that the business side of things will look after itself if the football team is consistently performing at a high level.

I'm 50-50 on Webb. But of the items you raise how much was Webb and how much of it was the Board? With respect to signing Flanno, my understanding was it was Board members that were the problem, not Webb. In terms of the business side of things looking after itself if the team is going well - that is true. Except the team hasn't been going well and hadn't been going well for many years before Webb was hired. Webb stated the organisation was $6M in debt when he arrived and operating at a loss each year. He turned that around to the point where we were making a profit with the intention of investing in programs and infrastructure to improve the on-field performances. So I give him credit for fixing the finances, for having what seemed to me a reasonable plan to enable future success, and for having the courage to articulate the plan at one of the members sessions.

Beyond that, well maybe he was the right guy to turn the finances around but we still don't have much success on the field. The centre of excellence has only just had the DA approved. And the Board is still the same old board. I think it's probably time for someone new, just hope it's a smart operator and not some old boy.

First calling for the next CEO must surely be a focus on our fortunes on the football field.

That includes getting rid of Ben Harran and some of the other hangers on in the backroom staff. I don't know what it is, but something must really stink back there and it's not helping us to recruit in the open market.

We need go getter i.e. a Shane Richardson type. Not an old boy.

Glad to learn of this news. Club needs as much change as it can get and a battalion of support to be placed behind the coach. He wants a player, go get him that player.

Not to make Webb a scapegoat but this club hasn’t got its priorities straight and he is one is answerable to that.
