oh yeah definitely can't change a team that's going so well, i mean after all they there was a drastic improvement this week according to AOBPretty concerning that when O'Brien was questioned about the possibility of bringing Phythian up to first grade after his great performance in reserves, Adam's response was basically we can't change the team now...
id rather he just be honest and tell us that he has to find a spot somewhere for future immortal Phoenix CrosslandIt was a very poor response from Obi, could have at least said they will look at all options.
Not saying Pythian should get a spot but surely should be considered, 3 tries, 3 goals and a 20-40 kick in a injury ravaged side to win the game, not much incentive for all the lower grade players
some our depth players are not NRL standard. When’s someone going to tell AOB that the top sides certainly aren’t using injuries as an excuse?
Panthers did just fine without Cleary, Leota and To’o.
Storm did just fine when they were missing spine players early on.
Eels are doing fine with their second string back like.
Injury excuse is more like ‘I haven’t built a good enough squad to handle week to week NRL’.
I found it ironic because he was accused of "ripping the heart out of the joint" after he arrived, but his 2nd and 3rd season teams (while not the best or most talented squads 1-17) were amongst the most resilient and gutsy. They actually bore more of a resemblance to the formative Knights teams than had been seen in years- or have been seen since.Man, we could really use a Brian Smith right now...
I still laugh that people believe he destroyed this club because he wanted to change the toxic 'boys club' culture that still plagues us all these years later.
Exactly. I can't stand when someone shows our injured list but it's actually players who most likely wouldn't even be starters for other clubs.some our depth players are not NRL standard.
some of our run on side wouldnt make their squad.
Without any injuries at all there's no room to drop anyone for poor performances, leaving players with the knowledge their position's secure.Exactly. I can't stand when someone shows our injured list but it's actually players who most likely wouldn't even be starters for other clubs.
This year has really highlighted how bad our depth is, not 1-30, but 1 to f**king 27 because we refused to fill our squad for some reason.
We have never recovered from not letting him finish his ambition here.Man, we could really use a Brian Smith right now...

It's rick stone going down with the ship again
After three years, 8 rounds, running last.
Hey I like you guys, do something.
I truly have much time for John Morris, you could do worse and are.
He would be wary of taking a shyte sandwich.
Would requires at least three years.
Players debuted under John.
Nikora, Kennedy, both Braileys, Talakai, Katoa, Mulitano, Wilton and more.
Currently with Souths.
Geez some of that was ugly but at the same time a bit of it looked far better than what we show now! Players running lines and getting the ball at pace.Oddly enough the last time Newcastle beat Melbourne was under Stone in 2015.
The Throwback Thursday match on Fox was the 2014 victory with Sione at fullback, Chanel on the wing and Travis Waddell at hooker.
Goodtimes
i dont think anyone was expecting us to start the season 8-0, the issue for me is 2 fold, firstly the lack of squad depth is 100% on AOB, most of us knew it was a weak squad which was further weakened by letting Pearce, Toa and Kiraz walk without replacing them, there's a reason why most people thought we'd miss the 8. Secondly and probably even more damning is the noticeable change in attacking structure/philosophy, we went from one of the more expansive teams in the 1st 3 games to a one out completion based team, the same approach that hindered our ability to score points last years, there's a word commonly used to describe doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.......I am not happy with some aspects of OB's performance as coach over his tenure here.
But the start of the season we started well, those 2 games, since then have dropped off a cliff.
We all knew the first 6-8 games of this season was going to be tough and there is no substitute for confidence. Especially at this club where we have a history of turfing things when the going gets tough.
Add to this the usual injury toll we have to shoulder and the lack of depth in positions.
Any wonder things are as they are for us at the moment.
This club for a long time has allowed mediocrity to thrive. Standards are allowed to be low and weak efforts are allowed to persist.
I was hoping OB would bring a Bellamy like focus on performance and effort areas and look to instill some of that Melboure tenacity to us. Such as players needing to work for a time before they start with Melbourne. And just their work ethic and professionalism.
